I looked at him, at the anger and frustration etched on his face, and the words I had planned to say, the desperate plea for help, died on my lips. He was in no mood to listen to me. He was hurting, and he was angry. And telling him the truth, telling him I was in deep with a loan shark and a murderer, would only make things worse. He would never believe me. He would think it was a trick, a manipulation.
