Amara's POV

I had almost made it. The sound of chaos in the distance, gunfire, shouting, the crash of broken glass had given me the distraction I needed. I’d waited until Garvin’s men were drawn to the noise before slipping out through the side corridor. My wrists burned where the rope had rubbed them raw, but I didn’t stop. I just ran down narrow halls that smelled of smoke and blood, barefoot, my heartbeat louder than the gunshots echoing through the building.
