Meret didn’t stop running until her lungs burned and her legs threatened to give out.

The hallway blurred past her as whispers followed in her wake—some sharp, some fearful, some accusing. She didn’t look back. She couldn’t. If she did, she might see the students mocking her and cameras flashing in her face.

The memory of Cassia's unmoving body and eyes closed lying on the ground again resurfaced in her head making her chest tighten painfully.
