Chapter 2
Startled, Olivia turned around and sighed in relief upon seeing the person, it was no other person than her best friend, Annie.
“Annie, you scared the hell out of me.” She muttered, reliving a sigh of relief in the air.
“What are you thinking about? Besides, Olivia, I thought we agreed to wait for me at the entrance. I can't believe you left before my arrival.” Annie pouted sadly as she looked at the empty seat beside her best friend.
“I know it might sound like a lie. But I tried to wait for you but I wasn't expecting to see our classmates at the entrance. She directed me here,” Olivia said calmly with her puppy look.
Even though Annie was a bit angry, upon seeing the puppy look at Olivia, her anger melted and instantly changed to a giggle from both ends.
A beautiful model, yes, her only best friend. They've been friends right from their high school days. She has always wanted to be a model right from their high school days, and luckily for her, she has a body that is perfectly suited for it.
Countless times during their high school days, many agencies would want to scout Annie, but her mother would always decline their proposal due to reasons known to her. But as she grew up, she was able to go for what she wanted, and she was picked up on her first trier of applying to be a model for a top agency.
“Who could have thought you had come to the reunion tonight.”
“Of course, I have to,” Olivia muttered.
“Does that mean Mrs Rachel's words are more important than your best friend's words?” Annie pouted sadly, countless times without a number. She had always tried to make Olivia follow her to the reunion, but she would always reject her, giving one excuse or the other.
“You're the most important, Annie,” Olivia said, pulling her cheeks playfully.
“Annie, I thought you've been busy shooting recently?”
“How can I not be busy? I'm super busy! My manager kept getting different modeling jobs for me. Even though I could barely have time for myself, I didn't want you to be lonely without me. So I had to take a leave for today!” She said with a groan that anyone would have probably thought she was exaggerating over her work.
“Oh, what about him? Your lawyer boyfriend? He didn't tag along?”
“He had a new case which he had recently taken up, so he had to pay extra attention to the outcome of the case so he wasn't unable to tag along.”
“Not bad, I can see he has a promising future. Don't you think so too?” Annie asked while Olivia could only nod her head.
From one topic to another, that's how it has always been whenever the two friends catch up with each other.
“Your wedding day is in twelve days, Olivia. I can't wait to see you in that glamorous white wedding dress, bestie. Oh, that reminds me, what about your house hunting?”
“Have you guys been able to settle for any apartment, Olivia?”
“We've got about five apartments. But we're yet to decide on one but before this week runs out. We should be able to do that.”
“Wow, that's so lovely, bestie! Getting a new house is a big deal nowadays. So you'd better think it thoroughly before settling on any. And lest I forget, make sure it's closer to the law firm.”
“Oh yeah. Two are pretty close to the law firm. It'll only take fifteen minutes by bus, so it's quite convenient,” Olivia replied calmly with a light smile.
“Is your boyfriend buying or renting the apartment?”
“We” 're thinking about buying it, but we're still considering a better option.”
“Wow, that means your boyfriend Ethan is quite stable. Don't you think so?” Annie asked.
“He's trying his best, I guess.”
“Olivia.”
“Yes?”
“Are you sure you want to marry him, just like that… Have you made up your mind?” Annie suddenly asked with a serious expression; probably, the question had been dancing in her mind, but she never had a chance to ask, and luckily, tonight was the perfect option for her.
“Does it still matter? Our parents have approved of our relationship. Now, we've gotten to this stage, there's nothing I can do even if I don't want to.”
“Olivia,” Annie called tenderly as she took her hand and stared straight into Olivia's pair of eyes as if she were searching for a long-lost answer.
“Olivia, you know why I'm asking you this. Have you forgotten about him?” Annie lowered her voice as she whispered the last few sentences yet Olivia was able to hear her. Within a seconds, a glint of sadness with a hint of an almost undetectable heartache appeared on her face.
“I didn't mean to make you remember him, okay! But I think it's high time you sit down and ask yourself if you've moved on from him. Have you gotten over the person from eight years ago?”
“What's your point exactly, Annie? Even if I am unwilling to marry my boyfriend, I can never go back to the past. Whatever happened between me and the person from eight years ago was in the past, and things from the past are not meant to be remembered in the present.” Olivia said bitterly. The pain in her voice was so vivid, but she'd to hide it with a light smile.
It is so obvious that Olivia has always despised talking about that person. She has always ignored anything that has to do with him. The main reason she has always rejected going to the reunion.
“Everything that happened eight years ago is gone. It's all in the past, Annie.”
Just as Annie was about to speak, the entrance door of the private room they were all staying in opened from the outside, diverting everyone's attention. Even Olivia and Annie weren't left out.
Olivia smiles in satisfaction upon seeing Mrs Rachel at the entrance, her teacher, who has now had grey hair. But she wasn't alone, there seemed to be someone else besides her, and it was a man.
Strangely…. he looks familiar. He looks more like …him.
The man who had disappeared on their graduation night, the man who has always been the most important one in her life. Her first love. It was like a dream upon seeing him standing in front of her.
Olivia felt her entire body had gone numb, her brain blacked out. She couldn't think straight any longer ….
