Chapter 3

Belle

I arrived home, staring at the mansion with so much hate in my eyes, and he was the first I encountered.

Daven was waiting on the front porch with a mug of coffee in his hand, an umbrella and a concerned look.

He quickly rushed out to shield me with the umbrella while placing a sober face. It wasn't even raining anymore and I didn't need it.

"Belle" he called, and his voice sounded like an ache already.

"You know the situation requires that, and I never meant to. I'd never want to hurt or humiliate you..."

As he explains, I felt exhausted as he claims he only did that to gain the respect of the people.

How pathetic.

He didn't even ask how I got here, how I felt and if I got any bruises, but he was defending himself.

"You couldn't even defend me and Brielle? "You've been cheating on me daven with my sister" I barked, my head throbbing.

However, he took my hand and then placed it on his chest while shaking his head.

"I needed someone to stand in for you since you're ugly" he stated, and almost immediately, I shifted my gaze to the exit door. Brielle was standing there, in a nightgown.

The sting of hearing him call me ugly made me break down.

"Really daven?" I whispered as fresh tears poured down my eyes. Even when it was obvious, he kept denying it.

She cartwalked down the stairs and threw her arms around his waist.

"Let her be, we don't need her daven" she stated, leaning her head on his back, and I scoffed unbelievably.

I gasped at her and then sucked my breath. How would he explain this then?

"You can't blame me, Belle, it's in our nature to be entitled to more than one woman. You can keep playing the good wife" he justified and angrily, I pushed the umbrella away while fuming at heart.

Now he is admitting it. He is killing me.

He slowly pulled Brielle's hands away from him and hauled her to stand beside him while faking a remorseful look at me.

Her hands crossed, her eyes fluttered at me and a frown was obvious on her face.

It must piss her that Daven wasn't willing to let go of me yet. It was obvious, he needed to extort me more, and she was fine with it.

"I need you. Belle we could go inside and settle..."

No, not again. I can't stand the chance of them.

"I want a divorce" I cut in, clenching my fist. At first there was silence and they both burst into laughter.

"What?" Daven repeated, as though I was speaking gibberish.

"You heard me right", I pointed out in a shaky tone.

"Are you insane? Take a look at yourself, no one wants you. You won't survive without me", he lashed, his soft tone replaced with a cruel, condemning one.

"Wake up Belle, you're lucky he didn't chase you out of the house, stay and serve us or die from public hate and slander!" She interjected, standing tall as their betrayal and words were killing me enough.

Brielle just voiced his reason for not wanting a divorce.

"No one wants me?" I repeated in a sober tone as I raised my eyes to meet daven who didn't seem sympathetic anymore.

"I want you...Belle" a husky voice interrupted, and anxiously I rolled my eyes to see who the fourth person might be.

I gasped, bemused as it turned out to be the stranger from earlier! He found me.

He still had his hospital clothes on, his hair slightly covered his eyes and the way he stood out of nowhere like a manga out of a novel made me spur around sharply.

Daven's jaw dropped and Brielle widened her eyes as though she was staring at a ghost.

She eyed me and clung to daven. I could hear her murmuring to daven that a mad man had broken in because of me.

"Who do you think you are to interfere with? "She's my wife" daven barked, throwing a fierce gaze at the stranger.

The stranger arched a brow at him as he paced to stand beside me. His presence was beguiling, and I couldn't help but stare at him.

He must have followed me down here. I thought he was knocked out?

"Ex-wife and now, she belongs to me" he corrected, glaring into daven's eyes while i stood jinxed, unable to say a word.

Daven clenched his jaw, drinking every feature of my face and then scoffed.

"Let him see your ugly face! Then he'd run away" Daven brawled, intending to take off the veil from my face, but this stranger held his hand and pushed him back.

"You're not worthy of her, let alone touch her face" he retorts, his veins thickening as he was ready to lunge at daven, but I held his hand while panting heavily.

"He is a lunatic, just look at him, he suits her rightly" Brielle insulted, shaking her head at me.

However, daven was raged that he pushed Brielle aside and man up to this stranger.

"Hey lunatic, you're not taking my wife from me"

He keeps calling me his wife, yet hurts me a million times over and over again.

The stranger let out a cocky smile and I realized his secretary was here all along.

He had drawn closer to us, holding a divorce paper which he presented to daven.

Something is definitely queer. How did he know I needed a divorce at that moment?

"Sign the paper or lose your life" he ordered, and almost immediately, two bodyguards appeared holding daven at gunpoint and Brielle covered her mouth, suppressing a silent scream.

What more surprises is out there? I stood rigid in horror, too overwhelmed to move as this stranger did all the talking.

"I won't!" Daven declared, and without hesitation he was shot in his leg, which caused him to fall limply to the ground.

"Fuck!" He cussed, applying pressure to the open wound in his leg.

I shuddered and Brielle covered her ears in a nonsensical reaction. I didn't know how to feel, and I never intended to see a bleeding person.

I intended to move forward, to assist daven but this stranger obstructed my path and held my wrist.

"Sign it daven! This man isn't in his right senses!" Brielle cussed, dragging the divorce paper from the secretary and handing it over to Daven, who kept glaring at me.
