I arrived at the cave after they all did, giving them more than the initially planned thirty-minute head start. I threw my legs onto the path leading into the cave, the heat biting hard into me, though I wore nothing but my pants, my chest laid bare.

Even the chopper rotor whirring behind me did nothing to stop the heat soaking the air up from the lava flowing like a sea of smoky blood on both sides of me.
