"He had been through a lot to see that his family was where it was, and knowing that he didn't stay much longer even to see his son grow a bit older hurts me. Even if he did, my poor boy still met his end very untimely, and I guess it would have crushed him more than it still crushes me now..." her voice began to break into small sobs.

"I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that, Cordelia," I whispered, tightening my grip around her hands.
