 I called Axel the moment I drove out of the compound.

 "Where is he?" I asked as soon as he picked up. There was a pause.

 "My sources say he left the house last night and hasn’t been back. No sign of travel or anything," he said. My jaw tightened.

 "And?"

 "He didn’t look like he was running. Nothing suspicious," Axel added. My brain scrambled trying to piece one and two together.
