Chapter 5

I sat alone in my shattered apartment, surrounded by the debris of leftover memories. My heart felt empty and broken, and every breath I took seemed to carry a heavier burden. The pain I experienced felt endless, and I felt trapped in an unexpected darkness.

After that terrible night, I tried to rise. I knew I had to fight, but every time I tried, my heart always returned to the same place—Daniel and Lisa. The bitter taste of betrayal and lies continued to haunt me, and I felt increasingly isolated.

As heavy rain poured over the city, I felt despair wash over me. I took a bottle of vodka from the cupboard and poured it into a glass. Each sip seemed to erase a little pain, but I knew it was only temporary. I wanted to forget everything—the pain, the loss, and the betrayal. I wanted to forget who I really was.

In my drunken state, I remembered Daniel. I knew I shouldn’t do it, but the urge to contact him was too strong. I grabbed my phone, my fingers trembling, and found Daniel’s number. I stared at the screen, recalling all the beautiful memories we once shared, and pressed the call button.

However, as the ringing sound echoed, more pain enveloped my heart. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say, but my heart screamed to share everything I felt. After several rings, the call was ignored. The sound of the disconnect felt like my heart was being crushed. There was only silence, and in that silence, I felt shattered.

I threw my phone against the wall, feeling anger and disappointment swell within me.

“Why won’t you listen?” I screamed, my voice filled with tears. “I just want to explain!” But the voice of my heart was never answered.

After a while, I tried to gather my thoughts. I knew I couldn't keep feeling this pain. I had lived my life as a killer, completing mission after mission, but none of it ever filled the emptiness inside me. I felt hollow and desperate.

In my drunken state, I reflected on my life. I remembered everyone I loved, all the sacrifices I made, and all the shattered dreams. I felt as if I had lost everything—no purpose, no hope left. The decisions I made felt increasingly dark.

I went to the cupboard and took a small knife that I often used for cooking. I held it in my hand, feeling the cold metal, and my heart trembled with fear. Yet, on the other hand, I felt a strange sense of relief. Perhaps this was the escape I was searching for.

I sat on the edge of my bed, thinking about everything that had happened. I was a fighter, but now I felt tired. I didn’t want to fight anymore. In my mind, all the good memories I had of Daniel and our beautiful times together flashed clearly. However, each memory also brought deep pain.

I took a deep breath, trying to push away the doubts that plagued my mind. I thought about what would happen next. I wanted to feel freedom, to rid myself of the burdens that had been gnawing at me. I wanted to find peace, even if it meant leaving this world behind.

With trembling hands, I placed the knife against my wrist, feeling a mix of fear and hope. I closed my eyes, imagining all the things I would leave behind—all the pain, all the betrayals, and all the destructive memories. I wanted to be free of it all.

But just as I was ready to take the final step, a gentle voice inside me began to speak.

"Don't do this," the voice whispered. "You can still fight. You are a warrior. Remember all you've done to survive."

I opened my eyes, feeling tears streaming down my cheeks. I was a warrior, but fighting for what? I was so tired. In that moment, I felt trapped between hope and despair. I wanted to believe there was a way out, but the deep pain made me feel hopeless.

I stared at the knife, feeling its weight in my hand. I knew that this action would change everything. I would leave behind a world filled with lies and betrayal, but I would also leave behind the chance to fix everything. I felt ensnared in an endless cycle.

In that last moment, I sensed a small light flickering within me. I remembered all the people who had ever loved me, all the beautiful memories we shared. Maybe, just maybe, I still had a chance to rebuild my life. I didn’t want to end it this way.

I lowered the knife, feeling the weight on my shoulders slowly lift. I began to cry, letting all the pent-up emotions flow freely. I knew the healing process would be difficult, but I didn’t want to give up. I wanted to fight, but this time not for revenge, but to rediscover myself.

After that night of struggle, I felt a new sense of hope in my life. I might be down, but I wouldn’t let the darkness defeat me. I would find a way to move on, to build a better life. I would be a warrior fighting for my own happiness.

I promised myself not to get trapped in pain and despair again. I would seek ways to improve my life and erase all the lies surrounding me. I wouldn’t let the past control my future. This time, I would rise from the darkness and find the light within myself.

I decided to take small steps in my transformation. I realized I couldn’t change the past, but I could shape my future. I started by cleaning my apartment, removing all the things that reminded me of Daniel and Lisa. I packed away photos and items that held bitter memories, stashing them far into a box.

While cleaning, I found an old diary I had written. Curiously, I opened it and read through notes about my dreams and hopes. I felt the spirit that used to be within me. Each page reminded me of who I was before all the darkness came. I realized that I could still rediscover my dreams.

I began writing again. I expressed the pain, hopes, and dreams I wanted to achieve. Writing gave me the strength to piece my life back together. I wrote down everything I wanted to change and how I could do it. With every word, I felt stronger.

I also knew I couldn’t do it alone. I decided to seek support from my closest friends. I reached out to my best friend, Sarah, who had always been there for me during tough times. When Sarah arrived, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.

“Maya, I’m really worried about you. I know everything that has happened is really hard,” Sarah said gently.

“I feel shattered, Sarah. But I want to fight. I don’t want to live in darkness anymore,” I replied with determination.

“That’s great! We’ll get through this together. I’m here to support you,” Sarah said, hugging me tightly. That embrace provided the warmth and comfort I desperately needed.

Together with Sarah, I began planning new activities. We started exercising, trying out new recipes, and even taking art classes. Every new activity we did helped me rediscover myself and boost my self-confidence.

However, even though I was trying hard to move on, the shadows of the past still haunted me frequently. I knew that to truly heal, I had to face Daniel and Lisa. One night, with a pounding heart, I decided to contact Daniel once again.

I wrote a brief message, explaining that I wanted to speak honestly and openly. I felt that if I could talk to Daniel directly, there might be hope to fix everything. After a few hours of waiting, I received a reply from Daniel.

I felt mixed emotions as I read the message. Daniel agreed to meet, but he remained skeptical. The meeting was scheduled at the café where we used to meet. When I arrived there, I felt an overwhelming nervousness. I knew this was my chance to explain everything.

When Daniel arrived, his face looked tense. However, I felt a glimmer of hope. We sat at the same table, in the same corner of the café. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.

"Daniel, thank you for coming," I said, my voice trembling.

"I don't want to waste time. What do you want to say?" Daniel replied, his tone still cold.

I tried to gather all my courage.

"I want to explain what really happened between us. I never betrayed you. Everything you heard from Lisa is a lie."

Daniel stared at me but didn’t say anything. I continued, "I donated my kidney to save you. I fought for you, and I never left. I just want you to know that I still love you, and I want to fix everything."

After hearing my explanation, Daniel looked confused. He turned his gaze to the window, as if trying to process all the information. I felt my hope beginning to grow, but I also sensed fear.

"I don’t know who to trust, Maya," he finally said, his voice still uncertain.

"I understand, but I’m here to prove that I never left you. If you give me a chance, I will do anything to regain your trust."

I hoped Daniel could see the sincerity in my eyes.
