  As we stepped into the house, I announced to the kids. "Maya is coming over." 

  Riley's eyes widened in surprise. "She's in New York? She asked, her voice filled with excitement. 

  I nodded. "Yeah."

  I took their bags into their room and offered them some snacks. "Y'all should stay in your room and play, so the adults can talk."
