Chapter 3

Xavier’s POV

I was surprised by Merryl’s boldness when she sat on my lap. But that wasn’t to say that her forwardness was not welcomed. I had never seen a woman as beautiful as her. It didn’t help that my lust has been growing stronger each year since my destined mate died. We Alphas are not allowed to mate with someone who is not destined to be ours, so I have been holding in this lust for years.

Just the other day, I almost mated with a random woman in the pack. Had I gone through with it, she would have been exiled. Now, it had reached a point where I could not manage my urges anymore.

I grabbed on to Merryl’s hips and felt her body quiver under my touch. I don’t think she expected me to respond that way. Thinking about mating made the blood rush to my head. I was willing to brush aside the fact that she was married to my nephew, no matter how wrong it was.

“You’re losing control again,” I heard the deep voice of my inner wolf, Kano, call out. I inwardly told him to fuck off. He was the one who helped me to not lose control all these years, but his help was no longer needed now.

I didn’t care that the car was still running in the middle of the street. I leaned in closer to her and buried my face in the side of her neck.

“Xavier. I’m serious. Do you understand the repercussions… Wait…” Kano suddenly stopped speaking.

“What?” I asked, disinterested.

“I think. This presence. I’m disturbed by it. I can’t ignore it-”

“What the hell are you going on about?” I mentally shouted. I wanted to ignore him, but I couldn’t do anything with Merryl if he was going to keep talking in my head.

“There’s a dormant white wolf inside of her. This scent is too pungent. I’ve felt this way before. It’s drawing me in. Could it be…?”

I moved my head away from Merryl’s neck and looked up at her face. She was embarrassed and trying to avoid looking into my eyes. Kano told me that there was a white wolf sleeping inside her. How could that be, I wondered. White wolves were the most powerful and were prominent in the Moon Altair Pack. From my personal experience, they were also very cocky and arrogant.

From my knowledge, they were very strict about allowing marriages with outside packs as they wanted to keep their bloodline pure. So, why would a white wolf be married to Levi, I thought.

“It is!” Kano shouted in my head. His voice was booming. It hurt my head.

“That wolf! She’s my mate!”

As soon as Kano said that I became confused. If the wolf inside Merryl was his mate, that meant Merryl was mine. That couldn’t be possible. We were supposed to be mated to only one wolf for our entire lifetime. And mine had already died.

“Xavier, I’m sorry,” Merryl muttered, moving her hands away from my shoulders. She carefully got off my lap and sat in her seat. I allowed her to move away. My hands were frozen. I doubted that Kano would make a mistake. If he thought that Merryl was my mate, he had to have been right.

But Merryl was married to my nephew, Levi. She was his destined mate. I became so confused that my feelings were bordering on frustration. The lust from earlier had subsided. Was it because I now thought that she was mine? Or was it because I wanted her to be only mine.

The thought of her being with Levi made me feel angry.

“No, don’t worry about it,” I said, putting my hands on the steering wheel. I looked out the window and saw that my car was the only one on the street. It was already past midnight.

I resisted the urge to chuckle. I wasn’t certain of what was happening and cursed my luck that someone who was supposed to be mated to me was married to someone else. We could have sex, seeing as she was not originally from my pack, but she still wouldn’t be mine. She would belong to another man. She would belong to my nephew.

I wouldn’t be able to ignore this urge to make her mine forever.
