Chapter 4

Merryl’s POV

Xavier stopped the car in the driveway by the front door.

“I can walk now,” I quickly said when Xavier moved to open the door. He told me that he wasn’t going inside but I could tell that he wanted to carry me again. Before I opened the door, he grabbed my hand to stop me from moving.

“Will I see you again?” He asked. His voice was caring. I wanted to see him again, too, but knew that I couldn’t.

“I’m married, Xavier. Thank you for saving me,” to thank him for saving my life, I leaned in closer to him and kissed him on the cheek, then opened the door. Before I walked into the house, I saw him holding on to his cheek where I kissed him. I closed the door then pressed my back against it.

My heart had never beat that fast before. Even on my wedding day, I was excited though not this much. Xavier made me feel like a schoolgirl with a crush on the popular boy. I wanted more than to just kiss him on the cheek.

I touched the bloody area on my head and felt that the wound had already healed. The bruises from the kicks were also gone. I sighed from relief and rubbed my stomach. My womb was safe. I would have been devastated had I not been able to give Levi a child. Even though we’ve been trying for years already…

I didn’t hear any sounds inside the house and thought that it was empty. Levi must not have been back yet. I assumed he took Honey back to my father first and that he would return very soon. I wanted to see him badly. That night was the scariest I had ever experienced.

“You!” I shouted inwardly and the voice spoke out after being silent.

“You may call me Selene, child,” she said, lovingly. I was furious.

“Don’t ever do that again,” I warned her. She simply chuckled and returned to sleep. Speaking of sleeping, I decided that I would do the same. I was tired. Levi would wake me up when he returned home.

I reached the door of our shared bedroom and saw a light flooding out into the hallway. The door was left ajar and inside I heard voices. They sounded familiar, and as I got closer, I realized that it was Honey and Levi. Instead of going in, I waited outside the door to listen to their conversation.

“… You left my sister back there!” I heard Honey say. I heard footsteps that indicated that she was walking about the room.

“I already told you, your father told me to abandon her,” as Levi spoke, a sharp pain pierced my chest, “He doesn’t want me to stay married to her because she can’t have children.”

I had to stop myself from gasping by bringing my right hand up to cover my mouth. At the same time, I placed my left hand over my stomach. Hot tears threatened to spill down my face.

“He told me to save you because he wants me to have children with you, instead.”

This time, I couldn’t hold back the tears. I fell down to my knees and clutched my stomach.

“Look, I know we’ve been sleeping together for a while now…” Levi continued, “But it’s not that I hate Merryl.”

“You don’t?” Honey asked. Her voice sounded angry.

“Yes, I don’t. Believe it or not, I do have feelings for her… I feel sorry for her… for lying to her all of these years… and for lying to you,” the more Levi spoke, the more my heart was torn into pieces. I wanted to scream all of my emotions out.

“What do you mean you’re lying to me?” Honey asked. I heard Levi sigh, He sounded frustrated, but I was going through worse emotionally than he was.

“I’m not sleeping with you because I like you. Actually, I didn’t marry Merryl because I liked her. Your family, the white wolves, you’re very powerful. I wanted to have children with Merryl so that I can train them to overthrow my uncle. But she can’t have children…”

I heard silence for about a minute until Honey laughed loudly.

“I really don’t care if you’re using me. But hearing that you like her pisses me off,” Honey said, “She doesn’t deserve love. Especially not from you. She’s worthless.”

At that moment, I heard Selene growl from deep inside of me. I had been trying to hold back my emotions, but she took control of my body once again. Before I knew it, I stood up and violently pushed the door opened. It slammed against the wall, and I marched into the room.

Honey and Levi were startled by the sound, and were more shocked to see me enter.

“Merryl?” Honey shouted, “I-I thought…”

I walked straight up to her and once I was close enough, I raised my hand in the air and slapped her across the face. I hadn’t realized that my fingernails had grown longer and sharper until it was too late.

Honey was sent flying and slammed into the wall behind her. I saw that the skin on her face was ripped open and blood oozed out of the four fresh cuts. I looked down at my hands and saw that my nails were covered in blood. Selene acted for me. She didn’t appreciate Honey speaking about me in that manner.

“Merryl! What are you doing?” Levi asked from where he stood. He didn’t move and I saw him glare at me with anger and fear in his eyes. I didn’t feel anything, despite tears flowing down my face.

All I could say was, “I’m divorcing you.”
