“You bitch!” My attention was stolen when Honey shrieked so loudly it could have pierced my eardrums. I looked at her struggle to stand upright.
I watched the blood flow out of the cuts to stain her top. I felt no shred of sympathy or remorse.
“You cut me! How dare you cut me! Since when can you…?” I listened to her speak and watched her body sway. She pushed her body against the wall for support.
I had no doubt she was lightheaded from the blood loss.
“Merryl! Please talk to me! What do you mean you’re getting a divorce?” From the other side, Levi was also trying to speak to me. The chaos would have overwhelmed me if Selene was still not in control.
“That’s what you care about?” Honey angrily shouted at Levi, “She just tried to kill me!”
I watched Levi shift his gaze to Honey.
“Stop being so dramatic. Merryl would never try to kill anyone. You’ll heal in no time.”
I watched Levi take a step closer to me. I would have flinched if I was in control, but Selene did not move an inch.
She allowed Levi to raise his hand and caress my cheek. I saw what I though was fascination on his face.
“Who are you? Are you Merryl’s inner wolf?” He asked and Selene simply nodded and retracted her long claws.
Honey could only watch from the sidelines.
“I can sense you,” Levi continued, “You’re very powerful. I’ve been longing for this moment-”
Upon hearing that, Selene used my body to slap Levi’s hand away. I couldn’t regain control no matter how much I tried.
“You better shut up before I fully transform and rip you to shreds,” Selene threatened with a growl, “How dare you cheat on Merryl? With this tramp! I ought to gut you right now where you stand!”
“Are you calling me a tramp?” I heard Honey shout. Selene scoffed.
“You’re right. You’re not a tramp. You’re a slut and a whorish snake!”
Seeing Honey’s face change from confusion to evident rage gave me a feeling of satisfaction. Other than my mother, no one had ever stood up for me the way Selene did.
I felt safe and protected with her inside me.
“Merryl, please ignore her,” Levi pleaded, bringing my attention back to him, “I can’t believe it. I don’t care if you threaten me. I’m happy for you.”
“Happy?” This time my voice broke through and I spoke instead of Selene, “No, you’re not happy for me. You’re happy because you think that now you can use my power… or rather, our children for your agenda. You weren’t sure if I was reliable before, but you are now.”
Levi didn’t say anything for a moment. I observed his smile drop before he shook his head.
“You shouldn’t have heard that. But you did. I’m not going to make any excuses,” I could feel the remorse laced in his voice, but I was upset and unwilling to consider forgiving him, “Yes, I initially wanted to have children with you to overthrow my uncle. That changed, Merryl. I need you to believe me.”
“How do you expect me to? You broke my heart! You slept with my half-sister!” Selene decided not to interfere and allowed me to say everything that I was feeling.
I could tell that she could feel the sorrow and despondence I was going through, just as I was susceptible to the fury and anger she was feeling.
“You can’t divorce me!” Levi said, his voice now raised. He grabbed my hand, and Selene forcefully pulled it back.
Selene walked to my side of the bed and picked up my wallet in the drawer. She then started to walk towards the door. I didn’t think there was any more reason to stay.
“Merryl! If you go out that door…!” Levi shouted angrily. Selene stopped walking.
“Please Merryl! You can’t go. Forget about Honey! We can start afresh. Now that you’re newly awakened, we could do so much together.”
“Like what?” I asked bitterly, “You admitted you married me only to have children with me. I can’t have children. That’s why you cheated on me. What am I supposed to stay for? For you to cheat on me again?”
There was a painful lump in my throat that made it very difficult for me to speak, but I still pushed the words out. My heart was bleeding out. I never thought I’d feel so betrayed. Not by my husband.
I waited to hear what Levi wanted to say, I wanted to hear what plans her had for us when I couldn’t even give him his biggest wish.
Nothing came.
I desperately wanted to hear him say that the children didn’t matter. That we could spend the rest of our lives together, just the two of us. I knew that was impossible.
Not a single day went by without him mentioning a life with children.
I decided not to wait any longer and mentally asked Selene to give me control of my body again, that way it would be me walking out of our home.
It would be me leaving everything behind to start over.
And once I was outside in the driveway, I allowed the hot tears to spill and I sobbed. I had to divorce Levi, and the only way for me to do that was to get permission from the Alpha of his pack, Xavier.
