Chapter 6

Because it was already past midnight, I didn’t want to bother Xavier. I called for a taxi and asked to be taken to a hotel where I spent the night and the rest of the next day.

I cried myself to sleep, the thoughts of the happy memories I had with Levi keeping me my heart aching through most of the night.

And in the morning, I couldn’t get out of bed or eat the food the staff brought out.

I waited until it was late in the evening and asked Selene if she could sense where Xavier’s wolf was.

“You’re making a wise decision,” Selene praised me as another taxi was taking me to where Xavier was.

I didn’t expect that the taxi would stop outside the iron gates of a large mansion. Levi was a Gamma. Naturally, our house was big, too, but Xavier’s was on a different scale. It reminded me of an embassy headquarters considering how high-class it was. It was nestled in a forested area. From the gate, I could only see the third floor.

It would never cease to amaze me that Alphas and Lunas lived in such luxurious homes, even though my father’s home was equally as large. Perhaps it was due to the fact that I didn’t live with him long that I struggled to adapt to such environments.

I was taken aback when the iron gates opened to revealed a polished butler.

“Alpha Xavier will see you now,” the butler stated. He turned and walked back to the entrance of the mansion.

“How does he know I’m here?” I asked Selene and she giggled.

“Maybe I gave my mate a signal. Maybe he sensed I’m near,” she said, an answer that irritated me because of how vague it was. I was new to this. I still didn’t understand how the connections between wolves worked.

The butler led me into the mansion. I was not disappointed. It was as grand inside as it was on the outside.

When the butler led me upstairs, I did think for a moment about reconsidering the divorce. Selene heard my thoughts and snapped at me.

“Why would you change your mind? It doesn’t matter if he cheated on you or he was using you. He is not your destined mate. Xavier is! Don’t make me take control again because I will!”

I didn’t say anything. I was certain she could sense my resolve.

It was not being mated to Xavier that convinced me to go through with the request.

It was realizing that I spent all these years I was married to Levi going back and forth between tens of doctors. The stress I felt and having to beg them to help me get pregnant.

All of that was for nothing. I was being used and cheated on at the same time.

The butler led me to what appeared to be a study and asked me to wait patiently for Xavier to come and see me.

When I was left alone, I sat on a chair in front of the desk and scanned the room.

There were documents, folders and books scattered all over the desk and the floor. I could tell Xavier was a very busy man, and that he was messy, too.

I waited for about five minutes before I decided to get up and pick up the mess on the floor.

I spent about ten minutes organizing the documents in one pile, and the books and folders in others. I was so distracted that I didn’t notice Xavier appear at the door until he faked a cough.

I was startled into standing up quickly and dropping the books I was holding in the process.

“What are you, my secretary?” He asked jokingly. I blushed and crouched down to pick up the books.

“I’m sorry, I just thought it was-”

“Messy? What makes you think I don’t prefer it this way?” He asked. I heard his footsteps as he walked closer to me and also crouched down. He held my hand as I was about to pick up one of the books and stood up. I did the same.

“I sense a disturbance in you,” he said softly, bringing his hand up to brush aside a strand of my hair that fell in front of my face.

I glanced up at his eyes to see him flinch as soon as we made eye contact. He quickly turned to look away and the warm expression on his face disappeared.

“You shouldn’t have come here. I should have told the butler to send you away,” he said, walking towards the door and pulling me along. I pulled my hand away from his. I couldn’t leave. Not without receiving permission to divorce Levi.

“No, I really need to speak to you,” I said. He sighed and kept looking at the door.

I was about to tell him what happened last night after he left me when a familiar enticing scent wafted past my nose. It was the same scent from the car, and it made me react the same way.

The tingling between my legs returned.

“I can’t… Not right now. Please, leave,” Xavier said, walking towards the door. I was determined. I wouldn’t allow him to leave without speaking to me first. So, I hurried on towards him, not paying attention to my surroundings.

My foot was caught on a stack of books on the floor and I fell, scraping my right knee. I tried to get up as quickly as I could, then I felt an arm snake it’s way around my waist. Before I could react, I was hoisted into Xavier’s arms and he was once again holding me with my head against his chest.

My heart was beating so fast that I could feel the blood rushing to my head in my ears. To distract myself from it, I closed my eyes and placed the side of my face against his chest. His heart was bearing rapidly as well. I felt calm but excited at the same time.

He carried me deeper into a part of the house without saying a word. We reached a door and he used his strength to kick it open. I was scared but mesmerized at the same time. Then I saw that it was his bedroom he was leading me to.

He walked up to the bed and carefully threw me down on it so I was laying on my back.

“You just wouldn’t leave when I asked you to…” he got on the bed and placed one hand on my left knee and the other under my right knee, pulling my legs apart. He inched closer until his pelvis was pressed against the area between my legs.

“I’ve been waiting for too long,” he said softly, leaning down closer to my scraped knee. It was bleeding only lightly, but he stuck his tongue out and licked away the blood.

I felt it sting but it felt good at the same time. I couldn’t describe it. I wanted him to do more with his tongue.

There was nothing I could do to stop him. There wasn’t anything I wanted to do besides to feel him inside of me. I wouldn’t resist. Right now, he was all that I wanted.

The shiver that ran up my spine when Xavier’s hands glided down my thighs was very electric. The tips of his fingers were softer than feathers against my skin. Every time they inched more towards the inside of my dress, I gasped softly, until they finally made it to my panties.
