Chapter 2. The Arrange Marriage I Never Know

EVELYN'S POV.

My life had been a disaster, but my grandfather's death was the worst.

"The name of the beneficiary of all inherited assets has been changed to Kayla Brenda Xandier."

Two hours after my grandfather's funeral. My heart was still grieving. But suddenly my family requested a meeting in the living room with a special family notary. They wanted to talk about the assets inherited from my grandfather.

I hadn't given much thought to inherited assets, but I was stunned after hearing what the family notary said.

Before grandfather passed away, he had arranged for the name of the beneficiary of his inherited assets to be mine. Even this mansion would be mine if grandfather passed away.

It was important to me because this mansion was also my mother's legacy. Our family-without Kayla and Kayla's mother-lived here for many years. Mother asked grandfather to entrust the mansion to me because Father would surely abuse the wealth.

Why did the name of the beneficiary of the inherited assets suddenly change to Kayla?

"What do you mean? That's impossible!" I argued in a firm voice. I stood up from my chair.

Kayla actually laughed after seeing my anger. Her face showed no guilt. The curve of a proud smile on her face seemed to imply she was satisfied to see my suffering.

I remembered the incident yesterday when I caught Kayla and Matthew cheating on me. They were very money-oriented and were targeting me for money, but were casual about me getting a divorce.

Was this planned?

Did Kayla already know that the name of the beneficiary of the inherited assets would be changed to her name-so she felt that she would live happily with Matthew?

Yikes!

"I'm so sorry, Evelyn. You're not lucky. Your life is not in your favor this time because you didn't get anything from grandfather," Kayla said with an implicit mocking voice.

I had nothing to say. I looked at the family notary.

"Mr. Hans, please double check if there are any inherited assets that grandfather gave to me! There must be something left behind!" I pleaded.

Mr. Hans shook his head with a reassuring face. A sign that there was indeed not a single inherited asset left behind for me.

My body instantly relaxed. So, this mansion that contained my family's memories would become Kayla's?

Dad was going to live with his mistress and Kayla?

"You're only Jasmine's adopted child, not our biological child," Dad said firmly. His gaze was intense on me.

My chest tightened at his words. Even though I knew that fact, his words stabbed me deeply. I felt worthless, and there was no place for me here.

What was I supposed to do?

"You should realize your position," Father continued. "You don't deserve any of grandfather's wealth. You're not the successor to this family."

"From now on, you must leave our mansion." Suddenly Patricia, Kayla's mother, interrupted the conversation.

I shook my head at Father, begging him not to send me away. But I didn't see Father give me any sympathy. He just looked at me coldly, then gave the bodyguards near us their instructions.

"Take him away from this mansion."

That was Dad's order that I heard.

It was useless for me to resist. I couldn't rebel when the two bodyguards approached me. They almost took my hand roughly, but then Sean-my personal bodyguard-blocked them off.

"Let me take Miss Evelyn," Sean said in a firm voice.

Sean brought me to my feet more gently, he gave me reassurance through the look in his eyes. It was as if he understood the irritation I felt mixed with anger in my chest.

I was too weak to fight them. Everything had been taken and I had nothing left.

In the midst of my indecision, Sean suddenly said, "If Miss Evelyn leaves the mansion, then I will stop working with Mr. Tyson's family."

My eyes widened in surprise. I glared at him sharply. What is this man saying?! If he stops working, where will he get the money?!

"Sean," I was about to reprimand him, but Sean shot me a glare.

I was instantly silenced. Not long after, the mansion maid came carrying two large tote bags. There was a folder of documents as well which I quickly grabbed before Sean took over holding my things.

"Ah, the two useless people in this mansion are leaving," Kayla's voice rang out.

Sean and I looked back.

Kayla folded both hands in front of her chest and was still grinning with satisfaction.

"If there are people who want to be on Evelyn's side, please leave. You're all parasites!" Kayla raised her tone.

What was she saying?

I clenched my jaw. I felt like slapping Kayla if grandfather was still here. But my strength was too weak. My stomach was cramping as my head began to spin.

There was such a strong pressure on my head that I was almost in a daze. Sean hurriedly carried me out of the mansion.

When I was too weak, my hand accidentally dropped a document folder. Two papers splattered out of the folder. My eyes bulged in surprise after realizing that the paper that appeared was the result of a pregnancy test.

I looked to the side and found Sean already looking at the ultrasound that was so clearly displayed.

"Miss Evelyn, are you pregnant?"

***

"Welcome, Young Master Sean."

Sean is a conglomerate.

I was stunned after arriving at the huge mansion-which even exceeded my family's mansion. There were several bodyguards lined up bowing to Sean after they greeted him.

"Young master?" I asked looking at Sean for an explanation.

Seeing the surprised look on my face, Sean chuckled. He seemed satisfied that he had managed to hide his identity during his years of working in my family.

"Who are you really?" I asked. "I never knew you lived in such a grand mansion!"

Before Sean could answer, I heard a baritone male voice from the other direction.

"Evelyn, you've finally come. We've been waiting for you for a long time."

I shifted my gaze. A few meters away from me is the figure of Michael Johannes-the number two trillionaire in America!

"You must be confused as to why my son brought you here, Evelyn."

My eyebrows furrowed in shocked disbelief. I turned to Sean for the second time and looked at him open-mouthed. All this time, Sean, my personal bodyguard who I knew nothing about, was the son of a conglomerate?

"You must not know that your grandfather left you to me when he passed away," Michael said again, giving a small smile at the end of his sentence.

Michael continued, "He was worried about your family doing something to you and not having anyone to defend you. Besides, if you want to know, your grandfather and I made a deal."

"What agreement, Mr. Michael?"

"You and Sean are getting married."
