The class was off the minute we entered. The familiar buzz was missing. Heads were lowered, eyes puffy, the mood somber.

"Something terrible occurred. I'm certain of it," Theresa said as her hand clutched her bag.

"There's only one way to know," I said, looking over at a guy sitting in front of me.

I frowned and leaned forward. "What's wrong? Why is everyone like we're at a funeral."

He slowly turned, talking softly. "You don't know? Ben... Ben is dead."
