The letter still sat on the nightstand, folded neatly next to my book. I had read it again that morning, letting the words fill the small places that still doubted myself. The way Raymond wrote me love letters when no one was watching—it did something to my heart.

So when I heard his phone buzz from where it was charging across the room, I barely glanced at it.
