I was on the verge of giving up and my weak body relaxing for the painful inevitable when a thunderous bang split the air, reverberating in the large hall.

I snapped my eyes open then, blinking back the tears consuming my eyes fast as I threw my head to the stairs leading down into the basement. He was here. I knew he was, even though I hadn’t seen him step down the stairs yet. My heart soared in my chest, a sad smile stretching my lips wide.
