Chapter 1: Principles

MICHAEL’s POV

I woke up to a beautiful blonde, beside me, so I stared at her, admiring her figure. I remember that she didn’t please me well last night. I woke her up immediately, threw some dollar bundles on her face and told her “get the hell out of my house.”

She stared at me in shock. “What are you doing jack?! I’m not some hooker, or I’m here for short money.”

I stared at her and asked disdainfully. “Then what the hell are you doing in my bed?!”

“Bastard!” She yelled angrily, before taking her things and walking out.

I quickly took my bath and got ready for the work of the day. I had an important deal that needed to be closed. When I got to my office, I called for my secretary and to my surprise my personal assistant informed me that she ran into some mishaps and she would arrive late.

Immediately, I called the human resource department, and asked them to fire her and hire a new secretary for me. Maybe she thought that she had earned some privileges because she shared the same bed with me once, then she should kiss her job goodbye.

SANDRA’S POV

After a long day of queueing up for a job interview, I was completely, and really exhausted. I knew at the back of my mind that the chances for me getting the job was very slim but I won’t give up, I would give it my best.

I always wanted to work in a star entertainment agency, it was completely a huge deal for me. I had a lot of bills to sort out, especially that of my younger sister's surgery.

She was the only family I had left and I can’t lose her to appendix. The doctor said the chances of survival were slim, a fifty-fifty chance but I was willing to take the odds and do whatever it takes.

My stomach grumbled, and I remembered that I haven’t had anything to eat throughout the day. This has become a habit lately and I feared that it was going to tell on me eventually.

I got up from my body, even though my soul wanted rest. I made dinner. I had to see my younger sister, Lisa, in the hospital, and I had to look my best.

Just then my phone rang, it was an unknown number , but I picked it anyway.

“Hi dear,” Richard’s voice came through the phone, my ex.

I was disgusted, and I wanted to hang up.

“Please hold on, just hear me out.” He begged.

So I waited.

“What happened between us was a foolish mistake , on my part, that woman you saw me with, means nothing to me, I swear. What me and you had, was more than physical. You….. you are the one I love, you are the one I want. I miss you. I remember that I promised to pay Lisa's medical bill.”

In frustration, I sighed before replying to him calmly. “Richard, for the one hundredth time, it’s over between us. You and I can never get back together. And I don’t need you or Lisa needs you, most importantly don’t use different numbers to call me, because I will be blocking them. Goodbye!”

I hung up.

Richard was really trying me.

I thought he was sweet until I caught him having sex with another girl, the same girl he claims that means nothing to him, that was while I called off our relationship. I detest cheats and I made it clear from the beginning of our relationship.

I blacklisted his number, blocked him on different social media platforms but he kept looking for a way to reach me using different numbers.

I remembered that he promised to take care of Lisa’s hospital bills, and I really need assistance but I’m not going to sell my principles for money. I would take multiple jobs, shifts to provide for my little sisters treatment.

I quickly drafted my mind back to what I was doing. I quickly concluded making my pancakes, since that was what I was craving, and I also made sandwiches for Lisa, I was her favorite.

All set, suddenly my phone rang again, I sighed thinking it was Richard this time, so ignored it. It rang again, without looking at the number or caller ID, I picked up and yelled. “What is wrong with you?! Are you okay?!”

The voice I heard from the phone speakers was different. “Excuse me, I’m speaking with Miss Sandra Nathan?”

I quickly realized that it wasn’t Richard, it was from the agency. I apologized immediately.

“Yes ... .yes, this is Sandra Nathan, sorry for my reaction earlier, I thought it was someone else,” I said.

“It’s okay,” he replied over the phone.

“I just wanted to inform you that, you passed the interview, and you offer you the position of secretary,”

“Secretary?” I repeated in excitement.

“Yes, secretary to the CEO, you have been selected. You will receive an email shortly, it comes with your job description, and you are expected to resume first thing tomorrow morning.” The voice said.

“Thank you,” I replied.

“And just a personal advice, ensure you arrive on time, our CEO doesn’t condone lateness. Have a good day.”

“Thank you so much sir, I really appreciate it.” I said but still kept my composure over the phone. Immediately the call ended, I leaped for joy. My happiness at that point had no boundaries, I couldn’t believe that I was chosen, out of everyone that came.

I vouch that I would be so good at my job that my CEO will double my salary.

I got an email, I went through it and I saw the one sent by the agency. I was expected to resume before eight in the morning.

I reminisced on how I yelled at him, when I first picked up the call. I almost lost a golden opportunity, because of that god forsaken ex, Richard. I was lucky that the guy from the agency was a nice guy, if he could have hung up, but he didn’t.

I was glad, I promised myself to seek him out tomorrow morning, and apologize and thank him properly.

I went through the dress code, and it really suited my personality and fashion style. But something bothered me, I heard rumors that the CEO was a jerk, and he couldn’t keep it in his pants and really needed this job, but still kept my promise of giving it my best.

However, I made another promise, I wouldn’t let anyone take advantage of me, if it gets to that point, I would just resign, I can’t break my principles for anyone.
