Chapter 2

Amara’s POV.

White.

That was the first thing I saw, the ceiling above me was white, the walls white, everything looked too white to me.

I blinked, pain bloomed low in my stomach, dull, heavy and familiar. The antiseptic smell of the hospital made my stomach roll.

My hand twitched and I looked down, an IV, a bandage and bruises I didn’t remember getting.

My hand flew to my belly, I wasn’t dead but something inside me was, I knew it before the door even opened and the pack doctor walked in.

The ache I felt was more deep than physical, tears welled up in my eyes before the doctor could even talk.

He avoided my gaze, “What happened?” I asked as I hoped for something different, maybe I was wrong to think I lost the baby already.

“Luna you’re awake.” He said gently, his voice coated in pity.

“What happened?” I asked again.

He opened his mouth, closed it again and started at me, “You collapsed during the rogue attack, you were bleeding and we did everything we could.”

I already knew what he wanted to say, but I had to hear it.

“The baby?” I asked, barely recognizing my own voice.

He didn’t speak, he just lowered his gaze, his jaw ticked.

I sat up too fast and the room spun, I grabbed the sheets in a tight grip, “Tell me.”

“You lost the pregnancy Luna, I’m so sorry.” He sighed.

It felt like my heart ripped apart immediately I heard him, I knew it but hearing it made it worse, I couldn’t breathe.

My hands wrapped around my stomach instinctively, like I could somehow feel the baby that wasn’t there anymore.

He was gone, because of Karl. Because he pushed me, because he let her into our lives and pushed me out.

I wanted to scream, I wanted to shift and tear this room apart, but all I did was sit there, shaking.

“You should rest, you’ve been out for three days Luna.” The pack doctor advised.

I shook my head, I wasn’t a Luna anymore, after this, my pup was the only thing that mattered to me and I lost him.

I pushed myself up, every inch of my body screaming, “Where’s the Alpha?”

“He’s not available,” he said hesitantly, “he has been busy dealing with the rogue attacks.”

I scoffed and limped out of the pack’s hospital ignoring the stares, a few wolves looked my way but no one said anything.

I didn’t care about how I looked at the moment, I marched to the beta’s quarters, ignoring the pull in my abdomen.

I found the beta training outside the training hall, shouting orders at a few younger warriors.

He turned when he saw me, his face faltered, “Luna..”

“Don’t call me that.” I sighed, he shut his mouth and stared at me, I could see the pity in his eyes and I hated it.

“Where is he?” I demanded.

He shifted uncomfortably knowing exactly who I was referring to.

“The Alpha is in his office, he’s managing things.” He replied.

“Thanks.” I said, the coldness of my voice surprised me.

I walked away towards the direction of his office, I walked passed the pack’s warriors who couldn’t even look me in the eyes.

I opened the office without knocking and saw them.

Tiana was on his laps, her hands tangled in his hair, his lips buried in her neck, the same place he used to kiss me.

I froze as my heart shattered again in a new way.

I made a sound, I didn’t know what kind of sound I made but it caught his attention.

He looked up eyes wide not in guilt, but in annoyance.

“Amara..” He sighed.

“You bastard.” I chocked out.

Tiana stood up, smoothing her hair like she hadn’t just been dryhumping my mate.

“You’re supposed to be resting, why are you here?” She asks with a smirk.

I slapped him, the sound cracked through the air like thunder.

“You’re the reason I lost my baby.” I yelled.

He didn’t even flinch, he stood slowly rubbing his cheek, “don’t put that on me.” He replied. My mouth opened.

“Don’t act like I pushed you hard enough to do that.” He snapped.

My knees buckled, I grabbed the doorframe for support.

“You pushed me, you left me bleeding on the ground and ran off with her.” I yelled.

“You should go lie down, you’re hysterical.” Tiana moved toward me.

I turned to Karl, “Is she your Luna now? Is this what you wanted?”

He shrugged, “Tiana understands me, and she cares about the pack, you don’t.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat, “We are mates.”

“We are a mistake, I didn’t choose you, the moon goddess did.”

I couldn’t do this anymore, I didn’t want to, I stood straight and looked him in the eye and said the words I never thought I’d say.

“I, Amara Stone, rejects you, Karl West as my mate.”

The silence was deafening, Tiana’s eyes in triumph, Karl didn’t even blink.

“Good, you beat me to it, I wanted to do it first.” He said flatly.

The bond ripped through me like a knife, my knees gave up and I gripped the wall to stay upright.

It felt like something inside me was being torn out, my wolf howled. I stumbled back, numb from everything that just happened.

Tiana stepped closer, smug. “I guess you’re nothing now.”

I didn’t answer, I turned and walked out, eyes watched me from the hallway, whispers followed me.

“She’s been replaced.”

“Good riddiance, can’t even hold a pup.”

I kept walking, I couldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing me fall, but I was falling inside, falling so fast I didn’t know what was left of me anymore.

A howl sounded suddenly and someone shouted outside the packhouse.

“ROGUES!”

Chaos erupted, alarms blared and panic settled in.

I stumbled out the back door just as warriors began to gather. The scent of blood was in the air.

I should’ve stayed inside but I had nowhere left to hide. I was alone, rejected, empty and I had no idea where to go.

I ran into the woods away from the only home I’d ever known, away from the mate who had destroyed me.

My legs collapsed beside a fallen tree, heart pounding, the sting of what happened earlier still burning behind my ribs.

I sat up immediately I heard footsteps, heavy, close. I growled, my vision blurred as I looked around.

A figure stepped through the tree, tall, powerful, sharp grey eyes that locked with mine and didn’t look away, he looked handsome and dangerous at the same time.

“Easy.” He said as he watched me try to stand up. My wolf stirred confused and curious.

The stranger knelt beside me, careful not to touch me, “You’re not safe out here alone.” His voice was low, rough, something about it made my skin prickle.

“I don’t need saving.” I snapped.

He smirked, “Didn’t say you did.”

“Who are you?” I asked.

He looks at the direction of the pack I just left, “Someone who hates Karl West as much as you do.”
