My head rests against the edge of the bed, heavy with exhaustion. The steady beep of the monitor lulls me somewhere between waking and sleep.

Then— I feel him move, his fingers twitching weakly against the sheets.

I jolt upright, blinking the sleep from my eyes just in time to see his lids flutter open.

"Hermes…" My voice comes out in a sigh of relief, shaky, almost breaking. "You’re awake."

He blinks at me, dazed, as if the world is too bright. I lean closer, my eyes searching ...
