Lyra didn’t notice when she fell asleep that evening, but she woke up suddenly in the dark, breathing fast. Her heart was pounding so hard that it hurt. Sweat covered her neck and her hands were shaking so She sat up quickly, looking around the room like something was chasing her, even though she knew it was just a dream.
