Petal's POV

The rain didn’t stop all night.

It drummed against the carriage roof until it felt like the sky itself was trying to drown me. The horses’ hooves pounded through mud; every jolt slammed my shoulder into the wooden wall. The air smelled of damp iron and fear.

I’d lost count of how many hours had passed when the wheels finally slowed.

The carriage groaned to a halt, and a voice outside barked, “We’re here.”

My heart slammed once hard.

Here could only mean one ...
