The car ride was quieter than I expected. Not awkward, just… full. Full of things unsaid, full of the unspoken weight between us that had slowly been building for what felt like an eternity. I sat beside Nathaniel, my hand resting on my thigh while the other absentmindedly traced along the seam of the leather seat, trying not to let him catch the way my eyes drifted to him every other second. But he noticed. Of course he did. He always noticed.
