Maximus barely had time to throw Rylan aside before the others were on him. Bram tackled him from the side, claws sinking into fur. The twitchy one leapt on Maximus’s back, screeching like some demented bat.

Maximus roared again, a sound that made the trees shiver. He bucked hard, sending the twitchy one flying into a nearby boulder with a sickening crack.
