Verity's pov

I couldn't sleep.

They plagued my mind.

I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, the faint moonlight sneaking through the curtains painting soft silver lines across the room. Sleep refused to come. Every time I closed my eyes, the warmth of the evening replayed in vivid flashes—the kitchen, Cassian’s laughter, the way his ears had turned pink when I teased him.

I rolled onto my side with a groan, clutching my pillow tight. Why couldn’t my mind just shut up?
