“Mummy?”

Brooklyn heard a tiny voice call out to her in her sleep, feeling hands tugging at her elbow. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open, and the first thing that hit them directly was the ray of sunlight that was piercing through the window.

She squinted, forcing her eyes back shut for a moment and covering her face with a pillow.

“Hazel?” Her voice was cracked as she yawned, her hands rubbing over her sleepy eyes as she forced them open.
