Chapter 10

Chapter 10

He knows. He knows that his child is Summer Frost.

I feel so much fear while looking into Helios's cold eyes. I'm about to cry from all the fear. Plus, I can clearly see his anger as he looks at me.

"Why can't you speak?" he asks softly, but I hear the danger in his voice.

"W-What are you talking about? Summer is not your child," I deny, but who am I kidding? I know he won’t believe me.

And I was right because I saw the anger in his eyes. I stepped back in fear that he might hurt me again. When he saw my face, he slowly let go of my waist, then closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

When he opened his eyes, his gaze became cold again. The anger was gone.

"How old is she?" His voice was calm when he asked me that, but it only made my fear grow more because of his calmness. My hands were shaking, so I hid them behind my back.

“She’ll be five years old, boss.”

His jaw tightened, and I saw anger flash in his eyes again. He looked up as if trying to hold back, but he couldn't succeed because he yelled at me.

"Great!"

I jumped at his shout. My lips trembled when I saw his furious face. Out of fear, I couldn’t stop my tears from falling, which I quickly wiped away.

"You hid my daughter from me for five damn years?!" he shouted loudly, and I really started to sob.

"B-b-boss... Boss... P-please don’t take her away from me. Please... Please, boss..." I cried out, almost ready to kneel in front of him for my Summer Frost.

"And what do you want me to do? Let you keep my child away from me?!"

"Helios! Please... D-don't take her away from me... Please. My Summer Frost. She's my Summer Frost!"

"She's my daughter too! But you hid her from me!"

"I only did that because I knew you would take her away from me. Please, boss. Have mercy."

"Hell, yeah! You're right! I'm taking her away from you," he said and immediately went inside the vacation house, but I grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Don't... Please boss. I'm begging you," I said and tightened my grip on his arm to prevent him from going inside completely.

"Damn, woman!"

"Why are you shouting at my Mommy?!"

My eyes widened when I saw Summer at the bottom of the stairs. She marched over to us and stood between Helios and me, facing him with her arms crossed.

She glanced at me first with a frown before turning back to Helios.

"You made her cry too! You're a very big bad guy!" What surprised me even more was when Summer pushed her father out of the way. "Get out! Bad guys are not allowed inside our house!"

It seems like Helios was also shocked by what my child did because she pushed Summer like a gentle sheep. I guess I was wrong. It looks like Summer inherited this behavior from her father.

"I'm... I'm not..." Helios stammered, not knowing what to do. His face was pale as he looked at Summer. When his eyes turned to me for help, I had to hold back a laugh.

"You're not what?" my daughter asked sharply.

"I'm not..." I saw Helios close his eyes again and take a deep breath. "I'm not yelling at your mother."

"And now you're lying?! I heard you! You are really a bad guy!"

I saw Helios pinch the bridge of his nose and look up as if he was running out of patience, so I approached my daughter.

"Hey, baby," I called to Summer, who looked at me. "Mommy's fine. Just leave this to me, okay?"

"But, Mommy. I know this bad guy is bothering you." After saying that, she gave Helios a sharp look. I couldn't help but smile a little.

"I'm okay. Just let the adults handle this, alright? You need to go upstairs."

Summer stared at me, so I smiled back to show her that I was really fine. I didn't expect my child to be so protective of me.

I saw her pout before she nodded. "Okay, Mommy," she said and turned to Helios, who was staring at her. "What are you looking at?" she asked sharply, making Helios look away and glance down instead.

"Go upstairs now, baby."

Summer pulled my hand, so I bent down to match our faces. She whispered to me, "Just tell me, Mommy, if he bothers you again. Girl power!" she said before leaving and going up the stairs.

I laughed at what she said because she had watched Avengers: Endgame and loved the girl power scene there.

My smile faded when I saw Helios giving me an angry look. He took a deep breath before looking at the stairs where Summer had gone up.

"Is she always like that?" he asked in amazement.

"No. This is the first time I’ve seen him like this. It’s also the first time he saw someone fighting with me," I defended myself, worried that he might think I wasn’t raising my child properly. I will also talk to Summer later. Even though I know she did that for me, to protect me, it’s still not right for her to act like that towards older people.

"Helios? Son?" Both Helios and I looked at Mrs. Gallagher as she approached us. "What are you doing here?"

I saw Helios frown while looking at his mother. "Mom? What are you doing here?"

"I’m visiting my grandchild," Mrs. Gallagher said simply, which surprised Helios. I winced a little.

"You knew?!" he asked, sounding like he couldn’t believe it.

"Of course." Mrs. Gallagher looked at her son as if he were the most foolish person in the world before she smiled at me. "Hello, dear. I hope you don’t mind if I visit my grandchild?"

Mrs. Gallagher and I kissed on the cheek, and I tried to avoid looking at Helios. Even though I couldn’t see him, I knew his eyes were piercing me like daggers.

It seemed that Mrs. Gallagher hadn’t told Helios everything she knew because he looked confused about what was happening. I was thankful to her for keeping her promise to me.

"Lola!" I heard Summer Frost scream as she rushed to hug Mrs. Gallagher. "I missed you, Lola! Why did it take you so long to come?" My daughter said with a pout, clearly trying to charm Mrs. Gallagher. She picked her up.

"I’m so sorry, dear. But I have presents for you so that Lola can make it up to you," Mrs. Gallagher signaled her staff standing nearby to bring in what I guessed were toys.

Before Mrs. Gallagher’s staff could enter, Helios stopped them.

"No." Helios said while his eyes were fixed on my daughter. I saw Summer just glare at him. "We have to go back to the Philippines."

I was surprised by what he said, but I noticed Mrs. Gallagher smiled slightly. I was about to protest when Helios turned to me.

"Including you."
