“I want to make a few things clear to you, Lucy.” Donovan rose to his full height, circling Lucy who was sitting on the floor like a lost puppy. She gazed at him, her fingers digging into the marble floor in fear.
“You are here for only one purpose— to serve me.” He smirked, turning to look at her but she averted her gaze quickly, terrified by his gaze. She gulped hard, confused and heartbroken.
“What did my family do to you? First you killed my mother, and now you want me to serve you? Will you at least tell me what I did!?” She cried out with her eyes lowered, tears dropping from them. Not even her tears were enough to melt the monster's heart.
“You are a prize that I won fair and square! Your parents thought they could keep you away from me, they wanted to play me.” He scoffed loudly, stopping right in front of her. “Little did they know, I am the gamemaster.” He chuckled, just like a psychopath. She sniffed below him.
Lucy felt nothing but hate at that moment, resenting the dangerously attractive man in front of her. Her mother's death broke her, and she promised to avenge her death. But that didn't seem like it was going to be possible since Donovan appeared to be a dangerous man.
“Can I at least see my sister?” She sniffed, wiping her nose with the back of her palm and hoping that he would give into her request.
“You have no right to make demands.” He snapped. He was about to speak when his phone rang, distracting his attention.
“I'm on my way.” He spoke into the phone and then left the room without another word to Lucy. She got up slowly, wondering if she should leave or remain there. Her aching body was difficult to move around, but she managed to drag herself towards the door, trying to leave.
Something else caught her attention and forced her to look. They were the carvings on the wall, next to the door. The carvings depicted big, wolf-like creatures howling at the moon and tearing apart a human that was on the floor in their midst. She suddenly became cold, a chill running down her spine in fear.
“Where am I?” She mumbled to herself, her eyes filled with tears yet again. She wanted an explanation, but it didn't look like she was going to get any.
Lucy reached for the door knob but someone from outside beat her to it as the door pushed open. A young lady stepped inside, dressed in a green uniform with her hair tied in a ponytail. She was pretty— an almost unnatural beauty. Her piercing green eyes matched her uniform, and her pink lips drew all the attention to it.
“Come with me.” She ordered, her sharp jawline clenched. She had no emotions whatsoever on her face. Lucy wondered why everyone was so uptight.
“Who are you?” Her tiny voice came as she took a few steps back.
“My name is Serena.”
“What do you want from me?”
“Please, come with me. I have orders to force you if you refuse. So don't make this hard for both of us.” Serena’s eyes narrowed and Lucy swallowed the lump in her throat, feeling intimidated.
Serena left the room and Lucy followed behind her, her steps slow and heavy. She was confused, worried and angry, all at the same time. She failed to understand why everyone was keeping her in the dark, she wanted to know what was going on and why her mother had to be killed.
“Lucy!” A sudden sharp voice screamed and Lucy's heart skipped. She turned and saw her sister, Harper, being pulled along by some guards on the other side of the mansion.
Without thinking twice, she took to her heels, running towards Harper who was struggling with the guards.
“Let her go! Leave my sister!” She screamed, throwing her arms around Harper who equally held onto her.
“Get her!” One of the guards echoed, his voice commanding and intimidating. His brown eyes shone with anger as he tried to separate the wailing girls.
Two other guards grabbed Lucy and pulled her away from Harper, binding her arms and one of them threw her over his shoulder. She kicked and struggled but they were stronger.
“Lucy! Please help me!” Harper wept as she was dragged along by the other guards.
“Where are you taking her!?” Lucy hiccuped in tears, watching her sister suffer. “Don't worry Harper, I'll find you and I'll get us out of here, I promise!” She screamed as they went in separate directions.
Lucy found herself in a room, her arms still bound with handcuffs. She sat on the soft bed, tears dripping from her eyes. What had she really gotten herself into? What did Donovan mean by all he said? Was she really sold to him by her parents?
She shook her head, believing that her parents loved her too much to do that to her. Just then, the door opened and Serena walked in, looking even angrier than before.
“What were you thinking? Running off like that!? Do you know that you would have caused your own death!?” She barked at Lucy who lowered her head and whimpered in fear.
“Please.. don't hurt me.” She sniffed.
“I won't hurt you, but the Alpha will if you try to act smart again.” Serena clicked her tongue and walked over to the walk-in closet, throwing the door open.
Lucy's eyes widened, Serena's last words stuck in her head. Alpha? What did she mean by that?
She had only ever heard of Alphas in the books she read at her leisure. They were leaders of werewolf packs, commanding great power and having immortal abilities. But she knew it was all just fiction, right?
“Alpha? What Alpha?” She queried, her lashes batting in confusion.
Serena stuck her head out and glared at her, “I am not in the position to tell you.”
“Please Serena!” Lucy cried out. “I am a girl just like you, do you really enjoy seeing me in this state? My mother was killed and my sister and I were abducted. Don't you think that I deserve some sort of explanation?”
Serena bit her lip, feeling pity for the poor girl. Donovan had instructed her to only take care of Lucy, not to befriend her or anything like that. But Serena couldn't fight it.
“I'm quite shocked that you haven't figured it out by now. I feel sad for you because humans never survive here, they barely last two weeks.” Serena said, her brows twitching in disgust over what goes on there in that very mansion.
“H— humans?” Lucy's face dropped, her heart sinking into her stomach. “Are you not a human?”
“I am not. You and your sister are the only humans here. You are in Midnight Claw pack.”
Lucy couldn't help the loud gasp that escaped her lips. She couldn't fathom what she had just heard, and her heart was racing, like it wanted to jump out of her chest. .
“That's not.. it's not true! You're lying. Werewolves don't exist!” She cried out.
“That's what humans were meant to believe.” Serena shook her head, watching the scared girl clutch her chest.
“You can't be serious! This can't be happening!” Tears flowed down her cheeks like rivers, her heart in shambles as she struggled to come to terms with what she had heard. Serena had a duty to attend to, and Lucy's tears weren't going to stop it.
“You have to take a bath, you're going to be with the Alpha tonight.” She paused and lowered her gaze. “You are here to be his breeder and your duty begins today.”
A breeder? She knows what that is, her jaw dropped.
