Right. Video call.

My brain immediately started running through excuses. Maybe I could've said I didn't have Wi-Fi, or my battery died.

Anything to avoid Dary. I thought I could just skip it, then later text Mum and say I was busy, or the connection was bad. But apparently, luck hated me today.

I sighed, pulled my phone from my pocket, and stared at the text from my mum.

Mum: Jason. Answer the video call.
