Chapter 1

SURPRISE

NEZIRA

I picked up the A-cut ankle length skirt with a white turtleneck bishop sleeve blouse from the wardrobe. Slid into my feet a pair of Louis Vuitton Mary Jane’s. I brushed my hair once more and stared at my reflection at the wall mirror. Slowly I’m deteriorating, I thought as grey hairs were now visible and wrinkles could be seen on my face. Heaving a sigh of relief as I remembered that Dwayne always try to be there for me especially now I’m at my worst. It’s been three weeks Dwayne had been busy meeting top clients and signing deals. Palm enterprise would soon elevate from being a local company to multinational. I prepared his meal knowing how much he must have missed home cooked meals. I hoped into my sport car and zoomed off heading to Wilbert Airport. Waiting for his flight to arrive the airport.

“Aircraft 366DW just arrived.” a female voice was heard over the transmitter. The rowdy airport was then with screams. Probably from loved ones of the passengers.

“Yes, he’s back.” I said as I pulled out a small mirror from my bag and stared at my reflection again. “not bad.” I mumbled as I tuck in loose ends of my hair behind my ears.

There he was walking majestically, one can mistaken him for model. His black tuxedo was well fitted on his well built muscular body. His well permed jet black hair fell on his face complimenting his perfect look. Each step exuding aura. That’s my husband Dwayne. I ran briskly and jumped on him. His hands wrapped around my waist as he twirled me. I giggled as I held unto his broad shoulders.

“You’re back! I know you’re stressed out. You know I always go with you and… .” I was saying as he placed his index finger on my lips, shushing me.

“How’s your health Nezi?. He rather asked as my cheerful face turned sulky. “Nezi every day spent with you are memories I cherish. Coming with me to the conference would do you more harm than good, I cherish everything about you and would do anything just to make sure you have the best. Yes I’m stressed out but seeing you right now has relived me of my stress. So let me work while you rest.” I blinked several times trying to fight my tears but I lost. I let them flow freely, Dwayne dropped me on the ground, used his fingers to dab underneath my eyes. His veiny hands rested on my waist pulling me closer to himself, His face closer to mine, my heartbeat increased as he brought his face closer. I shut my eyes and slowly parted my lips to feel his lips has gotten full possession of mine, minty breath, I thought as I delved my tongue into his mouth, wanting to have more of that mint. When we heard someone clear their throat. We were just too engrossed in the kiss forgetting we’re in a public place. We quickly disengaged from each other blushing sheepishly.

“Sorry if I interrupted but the rate you guys were going, I think you’ll need a disclosed corner.” I heard her say as I turned to get a glimpse of the person.

“Freda, it’s you. I thought you were on a vacation at country Z.” I said as she smiled a little. She wore an oversized hoodie with black fitted trouser but it couldn’t still hide her bulging stomach. Wait a minute she’s pregnant, I thought pulling her into a tight hug.

“So Freddie what of your mystery man? The one who sponsored your trip to country Z and the one who has been taking care of you for the past six months there. Don’t you think you should introduce him to me because I’ll love to meet the man who put my darling Freddie in a family way.” I said hugging her not tightly to avoid pressing her stomach.

“Oh my dear Nezi, you haven’t changed. I really wanted to introduce him to you today but something came up. I promise some other time.” Freda said pouting her cheeks, she really looked like a cute puppy.

“But I’m mad at you. Why didn’t you tell me of your pregnancy?” I asked disengaging from the hug.

“It’s called an element of surprise.” She said whilst smiling rubbing her protruded stomach with her palm.

“Anyways I’m proud of you but I’ll really want to see your man. Sincerely speaking, I want you to introduce him to me.” I said as I placed my hands on her stomach. Wishing I’m the one this heavy.

“Aw, I’ll make sure you meet him before this week runs out.” She let out blushing then Dwayne cleared his throat grabbing our attention.

“Ladies, I think it’s time we move and standing for long isn’t good for Freda. Seeing she’s heavy with child.” Dwayne suggested as we disengaged from each other.

“Thanks for your concern Dwayne.” Freddie thanked Dwayne.

“You’re welcome.”

“Anyways guys, I’ll be your driver today. Dwayne’s tired and Freddie’s pregnant.” I said waving the key at their faces.

“Nezi you know you really don’t have to stress yourself.” Dwayne said as he caught my hand pulling me close to him.

“I drove you guys here. I’m not stressed.” I said folding my fist to as not to release the keys to Dwayne. “I’m strong Dwayne and not that weak woman you left at home.” I whispered to him.

“But I still worry about your health, Nezira.” He said as he grabbed my hands containing the keys. I clenched my fist.

“Dwayne, can you at least have trust in me. Believe me when I say I’m fine.” I said as his gaze softened.

“when you feel tired do so to alert me.”

“Sure, I’ll for just that.” I said as he released his grip on me. I then marched to the car park.

“Darling, please help me with my luggage, they seem heavy.” I heard Freda say as I stopped abruptly. Did Mr. Mysty finally show up. I turned hoping to see Freddie’s Mysty. That always made me question my self if I’m truly in love. What he does for Freddie, in my ten years of marriage I haven’t experienced such romance. Even contract marriage has a little spice of romance. What kind of marriage I’m I into. My hopes fell as I didn’t see Mr. Mysty. Instead Dwayne meticulously picking up her luggage. Did she just call Dwayne Darling? Dwayne isn’t one who enjoys being called cute namesakes because why would I be married for ten good years and still call my husband by his first name? Why isn’t he complaining this time.
