"Where'd you learn how to cook?", I asked Lucas as he transferred waffles he'd made from scratch from the waffle maker onto a plate.

"My mom", he answered. "She insisted on it."

"Why?"

"My dad couldn't cook to save his life", Lucas said, sounding a bit wistful. "Mom was determined I didn't end up like him." He chuckled. "The joke was on her though. Alexis can't cook."
