“I didn’t expect you to be here…” I said in a low breath, he was standing tall in a black tailored suit, expensive watch, and his hair that was gelled. His dark red eyes stared at me copiously.
Alpha Storm.
“I was curious, I wanted to see how you have been living for the past years.”
“We don’t involve personal life with business. I was going to reschedule a meeting with you.”
“I don’t get involved with werewolves.” His voice was strict, and hard.
“You are here tonight,”
“For you.” It was as if the word rolled out of his tongue. “…but I have seen enough.” Then he retraced his steps before Hansford came and placed his hands around my waist, I felt the warmth around him, and leaned against his touch.
My mate, he was my safe place.
“The Lycan came.” He whispered against my ear and kissed my neck. “…and you look gorgeous tonight, my Luna.”
Hansford was my everything, I gave him all my love, loved him with all my heart.
We’ve been together for six years since the night we found out we were mates at the mating ritual. That night, we made love, and became one.
When my father died, we merged our packs, and it became the most successful pack in the country, and it got bigger, and even more powerful since we joined forces.
I love Hansford, and he has been sweet and affectionate to me throughout these years, he has been patient too, and tonight I can't wait to share the good news that I have with him during our three years anniversary.
“How were you able to bring him here for our anniversary, you are amazing Cyra.”
I chuckled, and twirled around to meet his eyes, his arms went around my waist, and he kissed my forehead when I wanted him to kiss my lips.
“It’s starting soon, we should get ready.”
I nodded.
I didn’t want the disappointment to show up in my voice or my face.
“I have a surprise for you tonight.”
He grinned. “Can’t wait to see it.”
“Alpha Hansford, can I see you for a meeting?” Alpha Jason intruded, he was a close friend with Hansford. He left and went to have a word with him.
I started to make my way back into the gathering, after making sure that everything we needed was set, and the large projector was on the wall.
I planned on showing every memory we had shared since we were eighteen till now, and the recent news of my three month pregnancy.
I gently rubbed my hand against my stomach and smiled sweetly.
“Congratulations, Luna.” I heard greetings from every corner, and lowered my head slightly in response to it with a smile on my face.
I searched through the crowds, my eyes scanning around, my eyes caught Storm. His gaze was fixed on me, hard, and I couldn’t detect any emotion in them while he sipped from his glass of wine.
I looked away from him, wondering where Hansford was, and the ceremony had started for a while, and I had gone to meet with the lady in charge of the projector and gave her instructions, and I just want Hansford to be here.
“Cyra…” His voice sounded slurred, and he smelled of alcohol, and there was a feminine scent coming from him.
“You were supposed to be here.”
“I’m here, don’t make an issue out of it.” He snapped, he exhaled, and composure himself. “Let’s not create a scene.”
I swallowed the lump on my throat, and nodded, facing the projector. “It’s about to start.”
His arms went around my waist, and this time, it didn’t feel safe.
I sighed, and watched it.
Something else was on screen, it was Hansford with another woman, it was more of their love play, than mine, his eyes when he looked at her. I tilted my head to the side, and stared at Hansford, if he had that look in his eyes when he stared at me but he did, but he had that look right now, but it wasn’t for me but the woman that was on screen.
I took back my gaze to the screen, that was when I realized I was the other woman.
At the end of their video, there was a screenshot of her being pregnant and there was a smile on Hansford before it faded off his face.
Then, he stared at me. How did I miss it?
“W—what’s that about?” My voice cracked as I asked, and that was when she came through the double doors of the hall, and all attention went to her.
I recognized her.
She was his first love, Linada.
Her smell, it was what I perceived from Hansford. My hand clenched my blue dress, I didn’t want to shiver, I didn’t want to break down in front of them.
“You came back?”
“Hansford fought for me, he couldn’t do without me.” She stated confidently, and Hansford’s hand slipped off my waist.
“Did you do this?” He asked her.
“I thought everyone should know that I’m carrying your pup, and she doesn’t deserve you, look…” She said, and pointed towards the screen, there was a picture of me being in bed with the Beta.
“And…” Linada brought out the test result that I had kept, how was she able to get it? She must’ve gone through our bedroom.
“She’s pregnant for your beta, she was going to lie and force the pregnancy on you, Hansford. She doesn’t deserve you.”
Gasps escaped everyone’s mouth, and I froze on the spot.
“Is that true?” Hansford took a step closer to me.
“What do you mean it’s true, it’s all fabricated.”
“Fabricated!” Linada laughed.
“That’s a lie, I found documents.” She threw them on my face, and it fell on the ground, and Hansford picked them up.
She went on to speak. “Your so-called Luna is plotting with the Beta, and wants to take the pack for herself!”
“That’s a lie…” My voice came out low, and my voice started to shake, I hated how vulnerable I sounded.
“This wasn’t supposed to be about me, Hansford, you have been…”
“ENOUGH!” He shouted.
“I knew there was something about you, Cyra. But I kept you around because I needed you and your pack. I thought you were being submissive and quiet, but this is what you’ve been doing?”
“You were with her all along, and you are never going to believe what I have to say.” I pushed the tears back in. “Is that why you stayed because of what you would have gained from me?”
“Why else would I stay with you?”
“You told me you left her for me.”
“I never left my love.”
My eyes were soaked with tears and they were threatening to fall off.
“So you lied, deceived me because you…” my voice shook, and I forced myself to stop talking.
“I made you my Luna, is that why you decided to cheat on me, with my Beta? That’s something Luna shouldn’t do!” He screamed in my face, and I heard whispers about me, my name on their lips, and fingers pointed at me.
“I never cheated !” I yelled, and the tear broke free from my eyes.
“She’s going to play victim.” Linada scoffed, and walked over to Hansfold, she linked her arm around his, and the other went to her stomach.
She smiled at me, a smile that didn’t even cross her eyes.
“You disgust me, and the thing in your womb.”
His words stabbed my chest, all I ever did was love him, I thought the Moon Goddess was right about one thing, and that was mate.
But, I was wrong.
“I thought you loved me, Hansford.” I blinked my eyes but the tears won’t stop.
There was nothing in those eyes anymore, no affection, no love, not even lust, as if he was tired of pretending.
“You’ll get rid of that bastard in your womb.”
“While she’s carrying yours.” I pointed out.
“Linda is different.”
“How?”
“We made love.” Linda replied with a sly smile and leaned her head against his shoulder.
I wanted to get out of here, my wolf was groaning in anguish to be let out and tear her into pieces. But I couldn’t do that, the only thing I could do was run.
Sometimes it is better to run away from your problems than face it, you stand still and you get killed by it.
“Get the Beta, arrest him immediately!” Hansford flared up, I heard his voice behind me because I had run out of the hall, ran into the woods, running as far as I could.
My wolf tore off me, and raced deeper into the woods, we stopped when we sensed someone behind us in the woods.
We glanced sharply across the woods darling whoever it was to come out, Cora was angry, and she could take it out on anyone.
The worst betrayal came from our mate.
