CHAPTER 2 – Heartbroken

“What? But they said that it’s going to be read tomorrow.”

“Yes, but something came up with the lawyer, and he will not be available for another two weeks, so before he leaves town, he decided to go ahead and finish reading the last will,” Dad said from the other side.

“All right, I am on my way. Give me another twenty.” I hung up the call.

“Beth, quickly, let’s go to the mansion.” I rubbed my forehead, stretched my back against the seat, and glanced at the busy road. Beth accelerated the vehicle, and we reached our destination on time.

“Since everyone is here, I guess I can read Mr Kincaid’s last will,” the lawyer said as soon as he saw me. Everyone was there with their eager ears, ready to listen to the lawyer. I wasn’t interested in any property or cash; I was determined to grab the throne and continue Grandpa’s legacy.

“The Kincaids should appoint a new leader,” the lawyer said.

“Didn’t Grandpa mention anyone?” I questioned.

“Come on, Violet, everyone knows that I am the eligible Kincaid for the throne.” It was Linda who showed me her attitude. I despise this woman. Linda and I have had a cold war since our teenage years. Beth rolled her eyes, and I saw a few faces in the room disagree with Linda.

“Miss Linda, I am afraid that won’t happen because there is a condition that the next gang leader must fulfil,” the lawyer said.

“A condition? That’s crazy. I am the older child in the third generation, and I should be the one…”

“Miss Linda, please listen and respect; it’s your grandfather’s last will,” the lawyer said in a firm voice. “The next leader should be married and bear an heir to the Kincaid family!” I felt that my fate was laughing at me for the second time that day. I just learnt that I was having a fertility issue, and suddenly it became the reason to block my path to the throne. “What rubbish is this? None of us is married here, and we have plenty of plans besides getting married and having babies.” Linda started a fight over the grandfather’s last will.

“She’s right. It’s impossible; if we wait until it happens, the Kincaid family will be lost.” This was the first time I agreed with Linda in a long while. I expected Dad to say something in response, but he stayed silent.

“If you have anything to say or disagree with Mr. Kincaid’s last will, I suggest you file a case against it and take it to court.” The lawyer gathered his things to leave. I didn’t want to stay there and talk to anyone; my appetite was gone, so I went into my room, with Beth following me.

“Boss, what’s going on?” She looked worried about me.

She knew how hard I had worked to become the next Kincaid leader. I had been away for two years in tough training, and now all that effort seemed useless. I ran my fingers through my long hair in frustration. Until yesterday, I was worried about getting pregnant every time I had sex with Nick. Now, suddenly, everything had turned upside down.

“I think I should meet Nick today and explain what happened here," I said, keeping the file on the table.

“What are you going to do?” Beth asked.

“I have no choice but to make a baby with him. Once I get pregnant, I’ll marry him."

“Do you think he'll agree to take the responsibility?"

"Of course, he will. He loves me a lot. Beth, find the most expensive wine in town. I need to surprise Nick, and wine can change a lot of things,” I winked and lay on the bed.

In the evening, I picked out the sexiest lingerie I owned and draped a long overcoat over it. Beth brought the most expensive and exquisite wine she could find. I tied a red ribbon around the bottle and applied some makeup. Filled with hope, I walked to the vehicle. Beth was already sitting in the driver's seat, and she blew a whistle when she saw me.

"What?” I shut the door and asked.

“Look at you, sexy lady. I am sure a lot of things are going to happen tonight. I feel sorry for the neighbours tonight," she said, turning the wheels toward the roadside.

"Why is that?” I furrowed my brow and asked.

"Because they are going to lose their sleep for the night, they’ll have to listen to the sexy moans, screams, and..."

"Oh, shut up, Beth, you are too much. We are not a loud couple, by the way.” We both burst into laughter.

Soon, we reached Nick’s apartment. I didn’t call him to let him know I was coming because I wanted to surprise him.

"Beth, you go home. I’ll be fine, anyway. I’ll be late, or maybe tomorrow,” I blushed.

"Look who is blushing. I’ll stay here for a while, boss. It’s my job to protect you.” She adjusted her seat to lie back.

"Fine, but don’t wait here too long.” I smiled and walked into Nick’s apartment. I had an extra key to his place. I bought this apartment for him on his last birthday and decorated it with my touch. He let me do whatever I wanted. I just want him to lead a comfortable life. I was about to use the key, but the door wasn’t locked. I gently peeked inside and tiptoed into the apartment. He never leaves the door unlocked—maybe he forgot."

Then I started to hear his bed creak into a rhythm with a sexy moan of a woman.

Is he watching p*rn?

“Nick, let’s make a baby!” I burst into his bedroom with the wine to surprise him, but I was the one who got surprised.

Linda was riding him like a cowgirl, and Nick was digging his fingers into her back. Linda still did not bother to get down; she looked at me and winked, and continued her riding activity. She smirked at me like she was challenging me.

My jaw dropped and my mouth opened wide. “Shit, what the f*ck are you doing here, Violet? Why didn’t you give me a call?” Nick pushed Linda away and got down from the bed, and wrapped a towel to cover his shame.

“Nick, you were cheating on me? For f*ck sake, she is my cousin, Nick.” I finally gathered the words to speak.

“Violet, listen, I was going to tell you,” Nick started to speak, and Linda didn’t give a damn about what happened.

“You don’t need to give her reasons, Nick. Anyway, you were going to dump her, right?” I couldn’t believe what I heard.

“Nick, is that true? Linda, you are my cousin. How could you do this to me?” My heart was heavy and shattered into pieces.

“Come on, Violet, don’t do drama. I started to fulfil Grandpa’s wish. I suggest you, too, start working on it.” Linda said, sitting on the bed, and crossed her legs.

“You, bit*h!” I jumped onto Linda and slapped her hard, but Nick pushed me away.

“What are you doing, Violet? You, crazy woman, I was fed up with you. I was going to break up with you. Linda knows how to keep a man blissful in bed.” Linda looked at me and winked like she had won the war.

That’s it, I've had enough for the day. I looked at the expensive wine bottle I brought and took it in my hand.

“Go to hell, you as*hole!” Cursing Nick, I smashed the wine bottle against his head. He fell on the ground holding his blood-oozing head.

“Violet, you are crazy,” Linda quickly came to Nick.

“You are so lucky to smash the wine bottle against your head, Nick, otherwise I would have blown your head off with my gun.” A cruel satisfaction is felt when I see him bleeding.

“Get out of my apartment,” Nick yelled.

I walked outside from the apartment, held my chest, and took a few deep breaths. I saw that the vehicle was still there. I walked into the vehicle and knocked on the window. Beth was checking her phone, and she quickly unlocked the doors.

“Boss, what happened? Please don’t tell me that……”

“Let’s go!” I get into the vehicle and shut the door.

“Where, boss?” She asked. My options are running out; I am left with only one option.

“To the Bellucci hospital!”
