The morning light filtering through the stained-glass window of my office felt almost sacrilegious after the night's brutality.

My body, for the most part, had already begun to heal. The deep gouges from the feral creature's claws were now little more than faint scratches, and the throbbing ache in my skull had dulled to a low thrum.
