Sophie stayed back. She didn’t have a choice. Things had gotten worse. Gabriel was no longer hiding his affair with Olivia, not like he ever really did. They did everything right in front of her and Sophie could feel her heart breaking into a million pieces every single day.
A part of her had hoped Olivia would show some remorse. Tell her she’s sorry and hug her. She was her friend, her sister.
Three days after the incident, Sophie was making breakfast in the morning for herself and Nathan when Olivia came downstairs.
Sophie heard her footsteps as she came down the stairs but didn’t turn to look at her.
Olivia strolled to the fridge like she owned the house, poured herself a glass of juice, and leaned against the counter.
“Howdy, wifey” she said in a mocking tone.
She walked towards Sophie until she stood side by side with her. Sophie noticed she was holding a black bag.
“That smells good,” Olivia said. She scooped a spoonful of the eggs Sophie was making and stuffed them in her mouth. Sophie felt like slapping her across the face but she did nothing, just continued with her cooking.
Olivia lifted up the bag she was holding and placed it on the kitchen counter. She then unzipped it and dumped the content on the counter. Sophie was taken aback as she saw what was in the bag. It was Olivia’s underwear. There were dirty panties that were clearly stained with sperm and even blood. Sophie lost it.
“Are you crazy?” She screamed at Olivia “what the hell is this? Why would you put that on my kitchen counter?
Olivia laughed loud and long.
“You kitchen counter? That’s funny” she said, Sophie stared at her in disbelief. Olivia had always been pretty, she had long blonde hair, piercing green eyes and a perfect body that turned heads wherever she went. She could totally see what Gabriel had fallen for her. And why Olivia had the audacity to do stuff like what she was doing right now. Because she thinks she can get away with anything.
“Anyways” Olivia began “ I need these washed. I don’t like washing my undies with the washing machine. I prefer it hand washed” she said, picking her words one after the other.
Sophie wondered why she was telling her all of that
“So? How is that my business? You have hands don’t you?” She asked, her eyes burning.
“Well, it’s the weekend and I’m going to be busy all day with Gabriel so I need you to take care of these for me” Olivia said and gave Sophie a mocking smile
Sophie felt like slapping the smile off her face
“You must be out of your mind” she said and turned back to her cooking.
“You can’t possibly be talking to me like that," Olivia said, her voice rising.
“Yes, I’m talking to you, you little slut” Sophie said. She saw the shock on Olivia’s face and before she could utter another word, Olivia walked up to her and gave her a resounding slap. Sophie was shocked speechless, her face burning. She quickly recovered from the shock of the slap and made to retaliate but Olivia gripped her hand mid air and screamed for Gabriel, shouting that Sophie was trying to kill her.
Gabriel came bounding down the stairs wearing a robe.
“What’s happening?” He said looking at Olivia. Sophie’s eyes were filled with tears.
“She slapped me,” Olivia cried, collapsing dramatically into his chest.
Sophie stood frozen, her cheek still burning, tears forming in her eyes.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Gabriel screamed at Sophie, his face filled with rage.
Sophie was still holding her face and she opened her mouth to defend herself but no words came out, only tears streamed down her face.
Sophie looked at Olivia with the tears streaming down her face, she didn’t even try to stop it. She could see an evil smile playing on Olivia’s lips as she buried her face in Gabriel’s chest.
She looked at the pile of undies at the kitchen table expecting Gabriel to say something about it but he said nothing and just glared at her.
“You know, you’re such an ungrateful little shit” Gabriel was saying.
“Is this because I didn’t throw you out on the streets with only the clothes on your back? Gabriel asked her.
Sophie said nothing. She couldn’t believe this was happening.
She looked up at Gabriel, the man she used to love, the man she believed loved her.
“Baby..what happened to us? ” she began to move towards him.
Gabriel immediately stepped back and brushed her hands away.
“Don’t you dare touch me” he barked, as if she was contagious.
“Now listen, let this be the last time you will pull a stunt like this, do you understand?” Gabriel said
Sophie said nothing still.
Gabriel turned to Olivia, wrapped his hands around her and the two of them started walking back upstairs.
They were on the stairs and Sophie was about to turn back to what she was doing when she heard Olivia voice
“Hey, don’t forget the laundry” she said
With tears streaming down her face, Sophie packed Olivia’s dirty laundry back into the bag and took them out to wash.
