The incident in the kitchen left Fiona feeling disheartened. She had hoped that by cooking a meal for Jason, she could somehow help their marriage, But his cold response only served to widen the gap between them.
The following day, she decided to visit her company since she hasn’t been there since her wedding and her grandfather didn’t know she had built her company either. She dressed in a blue floral short gown reaching her thigh, letting her hair loose. “Where are you going?” she heard Jason ask behind her.
“I just want to check out a few things” she wasn’t ready to let him know about her business.
“And you are going like that, have you forgotten you are now a married woman Fiona” he eyed her dressing.
“I totally forget since I am not treated as one” she replied with sarcasm “moreover, nothing is wrong with the way I dressed” she answered
Jason stared at her, she was looking beautiful in her dress and all he wanted was to kiss those sexy lips pulling him in, he shakes the thoughts off “you are my wife, dress like one” he fired at her
“You are my husband, act like one” she yelled back
She carried her hand bag and left the bedroom ignoring her ranting husband. She needed to visit her dying grandfather in the mansion too before coming home.
Fiona's visit to her company was a breath of fresh air. Surrounded by her colleagues and familiar surroundings, she felt a sense of belonging that had been missing in her new marriage. She immersed herself in work, trying to distract herself from the growing tension at home.
“I never expect to see you back so soon” Gabby said, she also happened to be the person she has grown attached with and call best friend over the years
“I never expect to be back so soon but I miss work and everyone” she rested her back on the chair.
“I am sure you do, how is your husband, I have been waiting to hear some hot gist from you” her friend drag out a chair for herself
“I know you will but there are none today” she has decided to keep whatever is going on in her marriage a secret, she was even going to tell her grandfather
“Common, don’t be like that” Gabby persuaded
“I have got some works to do Gabby” she replied
“No problem but we are going ladies shopping on Saturday, and I don’t want to hear any excuses” she warned
“I will think about it” She replied
“Don’t you hear me, I said no excuses” she said
“Alright, go, I need to work” she forced her out of her office so that she could concentrate.
After work, she carries her bag and decides to go for lunch before she goes to the hospital since she was famished. On her way out, she ran into Michael, her husband's best friend.
“I thought my friend wasn’t going to ever let you out again” he stopped and hug her
She laughed “funny you, I have just been busy especially with unpacking my stuff” she lied
“Where are going to” he asked
“Going to have lunch” she replied
“Same here, hope you don’t mind if we go together” he asked
“Are you sure” she queried
“Of course, now let’s go” he held her hand and led her to a nearby restaurant.
“I must appreciate you, you are taking care of my friend”
“Your friend happens to be my husband, I must take care of him” they sat at a table while the waiter took their order.
“But is he taking care of you” he questioned
Fiona was taken aback by his question, is what is going on in her marriage visible for everyone to see, she smiled trying to hide her expression but it was late as he already saw them. “What are you talking about, he is taking care of me” she replied
Michael raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced by her response. "Fiona, I've known Jason for years, and I can tell when something is off. You don't seem happy, and it's written all over your face."
Fiona felt her heart sink at his words. She had tried so hard to keep her struggles hidden, but it seemed like Michael had seen right through her facade. She took a deep breath, unsure of how much she should reveal to him.
"I appreciate your concern, Michael, but every marriage has its ups and downs. We're just going through a rough patch right now considering how we got married," she replied, trying to downplay the situation.
Michael leaned back in his chair, studying her intently. "Fiona, I've seen rough patches in marriages before, but this feels different. You deserve to be happy, and if Jason isn't making you happy, then something needs to change."
Fiona felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her. On one hand, she appreciated Michael's support and concern. On the other hand, she couldn't help but feel conflicted about confiding in him about her marital issues.
"I know you mean well, Michael, but this is something I need to figure out on my own. I don't want to involve others in our personal problems," she replied.
Michael sighed, clearly frustrated by her response. "Fiona, I understand your desire for privacy, but sometimes it's important to reach out for help. You don't have to face this alone."
Fiona looked down at her hands, feeling torn. She knew that Michael was right, but she also didn't want to burden him or anyone else with her problems.
"Thank you for your concern, Michael. I'll keep what you said in mind," she said, offering him a small smile.
Michael nodded, accepting her response. "Just remember, Fiona, you deserve to be happy. Don't forget that."
As they finished their lunch and said their goodbyes, Fiona couldn't help but reflect on their conversation. She knew that she couldn't continue to ignore the growing divide in her marriage.
