As she made her way to the hospital to visit her grandfather, her mind was filled with conflicting emotions. On one hand, she was grateful for the support and understanding she received from her colleagues. On the other hand, she couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment in her marriage. She was falling for Jason, but she couldn't ignore the fact that they seemed to be growing further apart.
When she arrived at the hospital, she found her grandfather weak and frail. His eyes lit up when he saw her, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for not being there more often.
“I am sorry I haven’t come here since I go married” she apologized
“I understand, you are new to it and I can see you are adjusting very well”
“Of course I am” she gave a fake smile “how is your health”
“I am feeling better seeing you child” he coughed
“Take it easy” she helped position his head very well
“How is Jason, I thought you are going to come and see me together”
“He is fine but he has been busy with work” she lied
“Okay my child”
Fiona was not happy because her grandfather was dying and she couldn’t do anything about it “grandpa, Jason doesn’t know about our family wealth” she asked wanting to know if he was only pretending.
“His family knows but they didn’t want him to know” he replied
“I see,” she acknowledged.
They spent the afternoon reminiscing about her childhood and sharing stories of their family history.
In the evening, when she got home she met Jason which was unusual, he never came home this time before “good evening” she greets him dropping her bag.
“And where are you coming from, you left home very early this morning” he screamed at her
“Stop acting like you care, you never acknowledge my presence in this house, what changed today” she inquired
“Maybe for the fact you wear that out and you are just coming back” he retorted
“I told you nothing is wrong with what I am putting on, it’s a dress for crying out loud”
“Where are you coming from” he asked
“We agreed not to intrude in each other privacy”
“That doesn’t answer my question” he yelled
“Actually, it does, none of your business, if you don’t respect me as your wife, don’t expect me to do so” she walked out of him but was yanked back.
“Listen to me woman, I am doing you and your dying grandfather a favor of marrying you and since you agree to this, you will treat me as your husband”
Her eyes were teary, but she refused to let the tears fall. She had to stand up for herself and for her grandfather. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice.
"Jason, I understand that you may have your own expectations of what a wife should be, but I can't change who I am to fit into that mold. I am my own person, with my own thoughts and feelings. And I deserve to be treated with respect and understanding, just as you do."
Jason's grip on her arm loosened slightly, but his expression remained hardened. “I am going to find out where you go today and who that man is”
“What does that mean, who told you I have been with a man” she asked in disbelief
“There is no need for someone to tell me when you are dressing like a harlot, is it money you are looking for, I gave you that but you rejected it remember” he was furious.
“Jason, I am stressed out today” She made her way to walk out of him again but his grip tightened “Jason” she calls
He was jealous and he knew it, he shouldn't be this way, what she doesn't have to be his business, he had only agreed with the hope of divorcing her after a year but living this past day was changing something in him. He forced his lips on hers, he couldn't hold back from the tempting lips that had been calling him since morning.
But as their lips met, Fiona's mind was filled with confusion. She couldn't deny the chemistry between them, but she also couldn't forget the hurtful words he had just thrown at her. She pushed him away, her eyes filled with tears.
"No, Jason," she said, her voice shaking. "This isn't right. We can't just ignore all the problems in our marriage and pretend everything is okay."
“You are my wife and I think performing your role will make you remember that” he replied
“I am already cooking your meal and bearing your name, what else are you talking about” She prays it is not what she is thinking.
She is a virgin and she only wants the man she loves to be her first and also the man who loves her back.
“You know what I am talking about Fiona, your bedroom role as my wife” he confirmed
“But you said” she stammered
“Forget about what I said, I am your husband and you are my wife”
“Not by choice and you said it yourself” she replied
“You are going to respect me as your husband” he roared
“And you are going to respect me as your wife, I have a long day day, I need to shower, prepare dinner and rest”
He let her go this time but after she left, he called someone to monitor his wife's movements. He wanted to know who is seeing and where she is going.
As Fiona showered, her mind was filled with a mix of emotions. She couldn't believe the turn her marriage had taken. She had hoped that Jason would understand and respect her boundaries, but him showing care and concern is something she never expected. She doesn’t want him to know about her company yet but she still feels guilty about how she spoke to him.
She dried herself off and got dressed, trying to push away the thoughts of Jason's actions. She remembered his lips on hers and something ignited in her, she had wanted him to continue but she couldn’t as she doesn’t like the reasons he has kissed her.
As she made her way to the kitchen to prepare dinner, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She glanced around, but saw no one. Brushing it off as paranoia, she continued with her tasks.
The evening passed in tense silence as Fiona and Jason ate dinner. Neither of them spoke, the tension between them palpable. Fiona couldn't help but feel a sense of unease, knowing that Jason was monitoring her every move.
After dinner, Fiona retreated to their bedroom, needing some time alone to gather her thoughts. She sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the floor. She was surprised when he entered the bedroom, he has never been there since they got married.
“I went to see my grandfather today” she broke the silence between them.
“How is he, hope he is improving, do you need any money” he asked.
“Why is everything about money to you” she groaned “you know what, forget about it, I want to sleep”
Jason sighed “I will also clear my schedule so that I can go see him too” he replied
“Okay” she pulled the duvet over her and slept off.
The following morning, she noticed a pair of arms wrapped around her, she wanted to scream because she used to sleeping alone but the tingles and butterflies she was feeling calms her, she tries to push them away but they won’t bulge “Jason” she said
“Uhmmm” he hummed
“Let me go” she said
“Five more minutes,” he pleaded from his sleep.
He has woken up but he loves her in his arms, he has watched her beautifully sleep with her soft snore “I need to pee badly” she half-yelled
Jason groaned and released his grip on her, allowing her to get up. Fiona quickly made her way to the bathroom, relieved to have a moment of solitude. As she washed her face, she couldn't help but reflect on the strange turn of events. Just yesterday, she had been at odds with Jason, and now he was holding her in his sleep. It was confusing, to say the least.
When she returned to the bedroom, Jason was awake and sitting on the edge of the bed. He looked up at her with a small smile.
"Good morning," he greeted her.
"Morning," Fiona replied, unsure of how to proceed.
“We will be having a party this evening here in my house,” Jason said.
Fiona became stunned “Why are you just telling me this now, how do you expect me to cater for the party” she asked him.
“You asked too many questions woman and if I were you, I would get started immediately” he doesn't even show any concerns.
“How many people are you expecting?” She knows arguing with him won't change anything.
“Just 20 to 25 people” he replied nonchalantly.
“Just” She shook her head in disbelief but decided to just go into the kitchen to start preparing so she could have time to change and look presentable.
