Lucien's eyes met mine. "Adam," he said.

He didn't put the phone on speaker, but I could still hear the smug voice bleeding through the speaker.

"Oh, good. You do remember me," Adam said.

"I was starting to think Daxton's little rebellion had made you all forget who pulls the strings."

My chest burned. Daxton suddenly went limp again and my stomach churned.

"Where's Darren?" Lucien snapped, trying to mask the tremble in his voice. "What did you do to him?"
