The camp was still.

Too still.

The kind of stillness Selene had come to hate.

It was past midnight when she heard the first sound. A crash from Elra’s hut. Sharp and sudden.

Selene was already moving.

She burst through the flap and found Elra on the floor, one hand gripping the edge of her table, the other pressed to her stomach. Her mouth trembled, and her eyes were wide.

“Elra!” Selene dropped beside her, holding her up. “What happened?”
