Painful words
Jenna's point of view
As soon as the car came to a stop in front of the house, a guard opened the door for me and I stepped out. I knew what was coming next but I tried my best to walk quickly and probably get to my room before he did.
Yes. We do not sleep in the same room, it's more like a stigma for him if we do.
I'd just walked into my room when he came in, banging the door really hard while his chest heaved up and down.
“I'm sorry for showing up unannounced,I just wanted to take you out. It's been a while.” He chuckled, taking off his cufflinks.
“And do you call this a marriage? This charade we have going on?” He asked. The bitterness laced his voice and it cut deeper than a blade. His words stung every time he spoke yet I'm not used to it.
“I know the circumstances of our marriage,I won't try to go further than that.” I replied curtly. His phone rang and immediately he picked.
After a few minutes,he ended the call and looked at me. “Tomorrow we'll have lunch with the whole family, treat yourself to a makeover and smell nice.” With that he walked out of my room while I sighed and quickly locked the door.
I picked my phone and dialed Jessie's phone and thankfully she picked immediately. “Where are you?” I asked, rolling my eyes. I could see her rolling her eyes and chuckling mentally.
“Clubbing? Really?”
“Chill Jenna what's up? What did Mr Beasty do?” She asked and I couldn't help but grin. She always has a way of lighting my world up.
“He wants me to do a makeover and smell nice, we're having lunch with…..you know who.” I heard her tired sigh. She joined us for dinner in the first month of my marriage and it was such a ruckus because she couldn't stand by and watch Damon's sister Danielle disrespect me.
“Why don't we do this, I'll come over and pick you up then we can go for that makeover together.”
“That'll be nice.” I replied and she sighed again.
“I love you sissy and trust me you'll be fine.” She whispered.
“I know.” I whispered right back before ending the call.
As soon as the first ray of sunlight slipped in through the window,I got out of bed and moved to the bathroom. Today's going to be really long so I need all the energy and positivity around me.
I got into my gym outfit after freshening up then marched out to the gym area. Coach Ansel was there already, doing some laps. His eyes lit up immediately he saw me and as I got closer we high fived.
“Someone woke up on the right side of the bed.” He teased me and I smiled.
After two hours at the gym,I went back upstairs and showered, getting ready for Jessie to come pick me up.
I was feeling giddy concerning lunch today, it's always one family drama or another whenever we all gather and somehow they manage to pull me into it.
“Where the fuck are you?” Jessie screamed for the fifth time after calling me but the truth is I was trying to get a fancy jacket to cover the mark from Damon's fierce grip the previous day.
I finally found one and dashed downstairs, walking briskly till I got outside. Jessie's Bugatti sat comfortably outside the gate and I didn't waste any time getting in.
“What took you so long?” She asked and I smiled, not giving her a direct reply.”
“So where are we going?” I asked, buckling my seat belt properly before turning to look at her and noticing her frown.
“Why are you wearing a jacket? it's so hot.”
“It fits my pants, come on we need to be fast, lunch starts in five hours.”
We got to the beauty house and Jessie made them give me the best treatment and when I looked at myself in the mirror a few hours later,I was struck by the person staring back at me.
At twenty three, I'd forgotten what it feels like to wear makeup and really look chic. I looked so bland….if there's a word for describing plain housewives.
“You look like you jumped out of Paris fashion week, too bad you have an asshole for a husband.” Jessie said and I hugged her.
Just as if on cue, she patted my back and kept the hug for quite some time.
“You should head home now, get dressed put on that smile and show them they've got nothing on you.”
I waved her goodbye and in no time a sleek red SUV stopped in front of the building. Yes, I called my driver.
Three hours later,as I stepped out of Damon's white Bentley I felt my palms becoming sweaty. His grandfather Uriel has the final say in the family. That's why Damon hasn't been able to file for a divorce or cheat in the open but that doesn't stop his family members from trying to make me run mad by doing devilish things.
As we walked into the house, everyone was seated already. His grandfather, his mom and dad,his sisters Danielle and Danika.
We greeted everyone with a kiss and a few hi and hello before taking our seats. Danielle couldn't keep the scowl off her face. Yeah, we're age mates and according to her my family is a D list millionaire family so I mean nothing before them.
“So how's the company coming along?” Damon's father asked, wiping the side of his mouth with a tissue as I felt Damon hesitate before responding.
“In good shape.” He replied curtly.
“Do you remember what day it is tomorrow?” Danielle suddenly asked and the whole table went silent. I saw his mother wiping her eyes from the side of my eyes.
“Oh I can see you're a confused little wife.
“Well tomorrow is the death anniversary of Damon's one and only true love.” It came like a blow, fierce and hard as the realization hit me.
I've not been battling for his with a living Liana but with a dead lady I don't know and may never know.
