Claire’s POV

By 5:45 AM on Tuesday, I am awake already. I hardly slept last night. I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep, replaying the odd card, which felt weird. “Some doors, once opened, cannot be shut.” I held on to that warning. I did wonder if I had gone too far by just taking a job, by chasing my ambition.

I awoke to a still city outside. I could feel my heart race, as if worry had joined me in the morning. I showered, looking for things that shouldn’t be there.
