Chapter 3

I wasn’t used to having breakfast with Alpha Romeo. My body was tense as I sat across from him, my hands trembling around the spoon. Thankfully, I didn't drop my food.

“Enjoy your meal,” Alpha Romeo would say every time we were going to have breakfast.

Alpha Romeo stared at me straight with a look I didn’t understand the meaning of. I wanted to look away even though I would see him angry.

“Let me sit next to you. Maybe that will take your nerves away.” Alpha Romeo sat on my right, and when he took the food, he said without looking at me, “Eat a lot. We have plenty of food.”

“Yes, Alpha.” I nodded.

At first, I could eat without feeling pressured, but a few minutes later, my breath became short as if his strong aura was pressing on my chest.

I took a deep breath with difficulty as if I were in a dark, narrow room.

My appetite was gone. That’s okay. I’d just eat more at lunch and dinner. We only had breakfast together anyway.

Alpha Romeo knew what was happening to me. He spoke after he finished eating and without glancing at me. “Relax. People will be suspicious if they see you.”

"I apologize, Alpha," I said as I looked down at the jean skirt. My hand, which was holding the spoon tightly, was aching.

“Don’t keep apologizing.” Alpha Romeo hissed, and then he warned me sternly. “I’ll really be mad at you if you make other people suspicious of us.”

Alpha Romeo left me alone in the spacious dining room with lots of food served on the table and the beautiful chandelier hanging.

I took a deep breath when I could no longer hear the sound of Alpha Romeo’s Oxfords on the floor.

Dread still surrounded me. My hands covered my face, and I felt my teeth chatter in horror.

I deserved Alpha Romeo’s anger. He didn’t do anything, I was the one who overreacted every time I was with him.

Being his bed warmer seemed a better option because the burden of pretending to be Alpha Romeo's mate was so heavy.

I didn't know what I really wanted.

Shouldn't I be happy not to be a slave who will be tortured every time I do something wrong?

I went to the bathroom to wash my face. Then I put on some makeup in my room. At least, I should look pretty and attractive, right?

I have nothing to do, even though Alpha Romeo announced me as his mate a week ago.

Alpha Romeo asked me to enjoy my days at his house. He would take me out with him when he really needed me.

Daydreaming was boring. Magazines and cell phones couldn't save me from this emptiness.

The omegas avoided me and answered me briefly. For some reason, it seemed like they didn’t like me. I could understand that, they certainly had high expectations for who would be suitable to be their Alpha’s mate.

“Hi, Lyssera.”

“Hi.” I smiled.

A boy approached me as the day was getting dark while I sat by the pool reading the newspaper.

He was wearing a white shirt and black jeans. His hair was wavy black, and his eyes were hazel like an Alpha Romeo, but he had a sharper jawline, and his face was as cold as ice.

I felt awkward. The handsome boy with an aura as strong as an Alpha stared at me and didn’t introduce himself.

“Arthur, there you are.” A young woman with shoulder-length light brown hair wearing a short-sleeved pink shirt and long white jeans walked quickly towards us.

“Eh.” The woman looked at me in surprise. The boy patted her hand, snapping her out of her shock.

“Hi, Lyssera. I’m Diana.” Diana extended her hand to me with a broad, warm smile. “Nice to meet you.”

“Hi, nice to meet you too.” I took her hand nervously.

My eyes widened when I realized who they were. They were the late Alpha Cassian's mate and son. No wonder Arthur had such a strong Alpha aura because he was the future Alpha.

“I asked permission to go home because I wanted to meet you,” Arthur said. I gulped because he was the true Alpha of the Mountain Twins Pack.

“Why do you want to pretend to be Alpha Romeo’s mate and Luna?”

Arthur’s question struck me like a lightning bolt, and the air became colder as if trapped in a blizzard.

How many people know about it? Alpha Romeo broke his promise; he couldn’t keep our secret.

“Arthur, why do you ask that?” Diana patted Arthur’s shoulder and shook her head before I answered Arthur.

“I’m just curious, and I will never be able to understand Alpha Romeo’s decision.” Arthur shrugged his shoulders indifferently. He stared at me deeply as if he was storing my face in his brain.

“Arthur is like that with new people. Plus, right now he’s dizzy and busy studying because he has an exam the day after tomorrow.” Diana explained her son’s behavior with an embarrassed face.

“I have to take Arthur to the dorm.” Diana gripped my arm tightly and smiled until her eyes narrowed. “Let’s talk sometime, okay?”

“Okay. I look forward to it.” I nodded.

Diana used to be Luna, but Luna's aura still sticks to her because she was destined to be Luna. Meanwhile, I had ruined the Moon Goddess’s plans for me.

Come to think of it, I didn't know when the marriage contract would expire. Maybe when the Alpha Romeo meets his mate.

There was no way I would ask Alpha Romeo to let me read that contract again. It was my fault for not reading it first before I signed it.

An hour after dinner, I found myself still not sleepy. So I read a book in the library.

Alpha Romeo bought me a dozen romance novels; he was sure all women liked reading novels.

I was not really a fan of fiction stories, but when I read one of those books, I found myself smiling and my cheeks blushing.

My nose caught a whiff of Alpha Romeo's scent. He always came home after having dinner, who knows where and with whom. Then, the first thing he did before going to his room was visit the room to his right.

I purposely sat near the open library door to see Alpha Romeo enter the room, and five minutes later, the head omega came carrying food and drinks on a tray.

That room was one of the rooms I was not allowed to enter besides Alpha Romeo's bedroom and workspace.

My feet moved quickly, and then I stood in front of Alpha Romeo's room door. It was the second time I smelled the rogue's scent from that room. Who was the owner of that room?

I crept towards the room, and coincidentally, the door was open. The head omega had not come out of there.

My intense curiosity prompted me to open the door to discover who the rogue was. There was no fear of being chastised by Alpha Romeo.

The rogue's aroma was familiar to my sense of smell.

My body froze, my heart stopped working, and time stopped around me as I stood in the room and stared at the woman lying on the bed, opening her mouth to receive Alpha Romeo's mouthful.

“Lyssera?” The woman stared at me in disbelief. I was still too shocked to respond, then she asked Alpha Romeo with eyes full of hope. “Is she my sister? Why didn’t you tell me you found her?”
