“So our Luna's wolf hasn’t awakened yet?” Gamma Monica looked at me from head to toe with her arms folded across her chest.
Her black hair, tipped with purple, was tied back in a ponytail. She wore a sleeveless red crop top and short black leggings. She exposed her biceps, triceps, and six-pack abs, showing her healthy and strong body.
“Help Lyssera until she becomes the unrivaled Luna, Gamma,” Alpha Romeo said in a commanding tone. He sat in his office chair, put his elbows on the desk, and leaned his cheek against his palms.
I swallowed nervously. Gamma Monica’s gaze was more serious than Alpha Romeo’s. Their aura was so strong that I felt suffocated.
The air in the room became hot as if I were in a desert. I almost forgot it was spring.
“I need your help, Gamma. I believe I can awaken my wolf,” I said confidently.
“Good.” Gamma Monica nodded. “You have to believe in yourself because if you don’t, the training you’re about to do won’t bear fruit.”
I was glad that Gamma Monica agreed to be my teacher. She wasn’t a werewolf who hated rogues.
Gamma Monica, Beta Eliot, and Delta Nial knew about Athena and my contract marriage with Alpha Romeo. They disagreed with the contract marriage, but even so, they didn't ignore me.
“You should know that the process of awakening the wolf can be fast or slow depending on you.” Gamma Monica didn't need to glare at me because I already feared her.
“I understand.” I nodded with my fists clenched tightly because of nervousness and enthusiasm.
“If you are in a hurry, wanting instant results, I suggest you find another teacher.” Gamma Monica took a step forward. I shuddered and wanted to step back.
“I will encourage you if one day you give up.” Gamma Monica leaned towards me as if she wanted to read my mind, and I could feel her breath blowing on my nose and her eyes staring right into mine.
“You must always remember your motivation to become a strong person.” Her words would be stored in my brain well.
“Yes, I understand.” I will not waste this opportunity. Awakening my wolf was something I had always dreamed of.
“You keep that spirit until you have a body like mine.” Gamma Monica said proudly and smiled widely. She bent her arms to show off her biceps. “I can carry you with one arm.”
I reflexively looked at my body. Alpha Romeo and Gamma Monica told me to eat a lot. I had to get my weight back to how it was before I worked at Alpha Johannes' house.
After the initial training session, Beta Sonia accompanied me to the hospital to meet a nutritionist.
My nutritionist created a food list, and the head omega was responsible for keeping and checking it daily.
The next day, the training to awaken my wolf began.
For a week, I started the day with a warm-up and then ran around the basketball court.
Gamma Monica increased the number of laps I had to run every two days.
From the first to the third day, my chest was so tight that it felt like the grim reaper was right next to me, and my body was crushed as if I had been hit by a car and was rolling down the road. The ache and weakness subsided the next morning.
I wanted to be like other werewolves and rogues who recover quickly from wounds and fatigue because their body regeneration works quickly. Therefore, I must be able to awaken my wolf.
Alpha Romeo said that I was not weak because I could feel the presence of my wolf and hear my wolf's voice, even though it was very faint.
“Athena said that your Alpha and future Alpha were most likely killed by the enemy that night,” Alpha Romeo said.
We were having breakfast. He had been talking to me the past few days as we sat in the dining room.
Alpha Romeo had been trying really hard to make me comfortable with him.
What Alpha Romeo did seemed to work because he wasn’t so scary to me anymore.
“Athena didn’t tell me that,” I said as I chewed on my pork chop.
“She hasn’t talked about your group for a long time. Maybe she doesn’t want to feel sad.” When discussing what happened to my group, Alpha Romeo never showed a sympathetic face.
It was strange that I expected an Alpha who liked to bring his warrior troops to attack his pack’s enemies and small packs to have feelings of concern for us.
“At that time, I should have surrounded my group.” I regretted not doing that.
“But they were there and they didn’t kill me because I was weak. They believe I wasn't a threat even though I was the second child of a Beta.” Their fierce faces and evil voices were clearly stored in my head.
They will regret saying that to me and selling me to Alpha Johannes like a useless item.
“They caught you, and then what did they do to you?” Alpha Romeo had finished eating. My heart was beating uncomfortably as my eyes and his hazel eyes met.
“They…” My voice caught in my throat, and for the first time, I was the one who broke our eye contact. My eyes went back to my remaining piece of pork.
I had promised myself I would not tell anyone about it.
“Don’t force yourself to say something you don’t want to share with others.” Alpha Romeo patted my head twice with an expressionless face. I didn’t blush, I just shuddered.
“Thank you for understanding me.”
“You’re welcome.”
I lowered my head and chewed my pork. The delicious taste reminded me of my father. Ah, without realizing it, tears flowed down my cheeks.
My fingers rubbed my cheeks roughly. I wanted to see my father's grave.
When I turned to my right, my heart jolted in surprise to find Alpha Romeo had not left the dining room, and his gaze was still fixed on me.
"Finish your food first, then you can cry to your heart's content." Alpha Romeo said in an annoying tone.
I blushed and was also annoyed with him. He should have pretended not to see the tears on my cheeks.
“When are you going to find medicine or a potion for Athena? You should invite me.” Finally, I was able to get myself out of that embarrassing situation.
“I usually do it on Saturday or Sunday or whenever I have free time.” Alpha Romeo shrugged his shoulders. Sometimes I wondered if he really wanted Athena to get better.
“I always go alone. I run and walk. The distance I cover is tens to hundreds of miles.” Alpha Romeo gave me a disdainful look. “Are you sure you won’t be a burden to me?”
I pursed my lips. His words were as sharp as a knife that stabbed my heart.
“I won’t be a burden. I’ve run more than 100 laps this week alone around the basketball court,” I said. Annoyance often made me dare to speak to him in a high tone.
Alpha Romeo smiled crookedly. A reaction I didn’t want to see.
“I want to see my dad’s grave.” I looked at him pleadingly.
“We will see him.”
I smiled and thanked him.
“I'm optimistic that the Alpha and future Alpha are still alive,” I mumbled.
I didn't know why Athena was sure that Alpha and future Alpha were dead, but since Athena didn't say they were buried, I hope Athena was wrong.
"If what Athena said is true—that they’re dead—I can help you become Alpha. But it seems all your members died that night.” Alpha Romeo stroked his chin with his brows knitted together.
The idea was brilliant. I was interested in doing it. Besides, if the Alpha or the future Alpha were still alive, I would be their Beta, since Athena already lives in the Mountain Twins Pack.
“Are you serious about helping me become Alpha?” I asked in a small, embarrassed voice.
“I will always help you,” said Alpha Romeo.
I was glad to have Alpha Romeo by my side. He was a stranger who cared about me.
Oh, no, my heart was beating fast with comfort. I mustn’t forget Alpha Romeo was Athena’s mate.
