Chapter 3

Vaughan’s POV

I came out from under the bleachers and walked to the track line where everyone stood already dressed in sports clothes. A loud whistle was blown. I had to shut my eyes unlike others who blocked their ears.

“Get on the track people, don't waste my time” Coach yelled in his thunderous voice. He was the only staff I actually paid attention to. The rest were all pieces of junk. I began feeling uneasy not wearing my hoodie and having nothing to bury my hands into. I lowered my head and walked to the track line to stand next to Xander.

“Dude, are you okay? You've been away for quite a while?” He asked, concern laced in his voice. I slowly shook my head, my gaze fixed in the ground.

“Cooper, move over” Coach yelled, making me look up at him to see him staring quizzically at me.

I stroded towards the bench and sat with my head bent while the guys had their run. I don't know why he sent me to the bench, but I'm glad he did.

“Damn it!” I cursed underneath my breath as I felt the wound slowly hurting me.

I looked up a bit and my gaze landed on the same girl. She was staring intensely at me, this time, like she was trying to figure me out. Well, good luck with that. But I couldn't help but notice how stunning she looked. Her eyes were the lightest brown I'd ever seen. She had one cool hair though. She looked tough and fierce and that seemed cool.

“Girls” Coach shouted and she tore her gaze away from me, walking to the track line. For some reason, I couldn't take my eyes off her. She stood slightly twisting her neck and the Coach blew off his whistle.

She dashed away so fast I could hardly believe it. Her hips swayed majestically and her ponytail tossed side to side as she ran. All eyes seemed to be fixed on her as she made it first to the starting point leaving a wide gap to the other girls. Cool.

Scarlet's POV

I stopped at the starting point and took in a large breath, stabling myself. It had been awhile since I last ran, and I felt really good. Ellen was soon beside me with a bottle of water clasped in her hands thankfully. She handed it to me and I hastily opened it, downing the water immediately. I tossed the empty bottle into the bin and walked to the bench where Vaughan sat. I sat as far away from him as possible.

“Scarlet, your dude is looking for you” Ellen called over and I looked to see Jones approaching. Finally!

“Boss, you have a video call from your mother” He informed me and I groaned loudly, taking the tablet from him. I swiped it up to pick and her furious face popped on the screen.

“Hey mum” I said in a bored tone. “Would you tell me why you hung up on me young lady?” She snapped and rolled my eyes at her.

“You called in the middle of class” I replied bluntly, staring at my cute nails.

“That doesn't mean-” She started, but I cut her off in a snap.

“Just leave me alone” I hung the call and handed the tablet back to Jones, then turned only to find out that Vaughan was gone. Where did he go? Why do I even care? The bell rang and I got up advancing out.

******* ******* ******* ********

I walked in the cafeteria adjusting my leather jacket while Ellen went over to get us some food. I insisted on doing it myself but she still acted on it. I scanned the noisy cafeteria for no-one in particular but my gaze landed on him. Why am I always seeing him?

“Hey, I got us some fries, hamburgers, and diet coke if you like it”. Ellen said, pointing at an empty table with our trays on the table.

“Thanks a lot” I told her with a warm smile. “Sure” She replied and I edged forward to walk when I felt a cold liquid down on my head. I let out a gasp at how cold the liquid was and opened my eyes in fury.

“Stay away from my girl” A masculine voice said from behind me. I looked at Ellen's wide eyes in fury and balled my hands into a fist.

“Who is it?” I asked her through gritted teeth.

“A jock” She answered and I flared up instantly.

Ellen's POV

She looked so mad and in the fastest way ever thought, she spun around, gripping his neck and slammed him to a table with a loud thud it sent the table in pieces.

“You fucking moron” She yelled and picked him up again from the ground, scaring me at her anger. No-one could video or comment, the place was silent with dumbstruck people.

I watched her with wide eyes as she slammed him to the wall. He was scared and surprised as hell.

“What's your name? She asked him but he only shuddered. That seemed to anger her because she tossed him painfully to the ground, I could hear a bone crack. This was bad. He couldn't even move or get up. He was just sobbing. Jake Hartins, cry? This was indeed a memory.

“Please don't hurt me” He cried out as she walked towards him. She let out a wry laugh and gripped his collar crouching next to him. She seemed to be contemplating for a bit before she finally pushed him to the ground.

“Next time, I'll break you” She threatened and stormed out. Cheers immediately followed suit. I found myself smiling widely. That was awesome.

Scarlet's POV

I bathed out and walked at a fast pace down the hall to nowhere in particular. I felt so furious I could hardly contain myself. I looked from left to right, looking for an empty classroom. I barged into a classroom to find some juniors.

“Scurry” I said in a rasp tone and they all scurried out. I sat at a desk and bent my upper body to the desk counting slowly to lessen the anger. Gradually, it faded and I lifted my face and began massaging my temples. I hated freaking out that way. I promised Dad I won't fight again. Damn it!

The door slightly opened and Ellen stepped in with a tray of food. A smile crept to my lips on seeing her. She was too nice.

“ I thought you might be hungry” She said with a light lift of her shoulders. She walked towards Mr with the tray in her hands and set it in front of me. I smiled thankfully at her and took a fry into my mouth as she took a seat next to me.

“What you did back there was really cool” She stated, making me look at her with an arched brow.

“No-one except Vaughan has ever made Jake Hartins that scared” She commented. So that's the dumb ass’ name.

“What do you mean by Vaughan?” I was slightly surprised at my eagerness to know.

“Vaughan hardly talks or fights, but he's a hell of a combat “ She replied and my brows furrowed in confusion.

“He's very fast and if you piss him off, he could leave you in shreds. He's just do isolated and no one dares to touch or talk him” She stated and a smirk spread across my lips. We'll see about that.

“Do you know if he has a driver or takes the bus?” I asked her and she shook her head.

“What do you intend to do?” She asked me, suspicion laced in her eyes. I took my burger to my mouth and made a delicious bite.

“ Just say a hi” I answered with a shrug and her eyes widened in complete horror.

“Don't do that, he'll kill you ” She said and I scoffed

“ Barely. He can't do anything to me” I said full of pride. I wouldn't even let him lay a finger on me.

“Scarlet, I get you can defend yourself, but we're talking about Vaughan here. He could hurt you real bad” She told,me in a pleading manner making me roll my eyes at her.

“You'll see, not even a finger” I said confidently. What was he? A god or what?
