SCARLET'S POV
I took out a black jumpsuit for my closet and let out a groan.
“ Too girlish," I said, disgust dripping in my tone as I hung it back in my closet. I looked around for any suitable outfit to wear and finally found a preferable one. I took out a black slightly rigged Jean and a black T-shirt then wore them. I slid on my sneakers and kept my hair in a ponytail as usual, letting the red lock fall to partly cover my face.
“Scar” I could hear my nanny's voice from against my room door. I picked up my headphones and hung it on my neck then slung my bag over my shoulder and held open my room door.
“ Are you ready?” She asked me quite hyper though. I sighed softly and nodded to her satisfaction. She tugged my arm taking me down the stairs to the dining room.
“You're finally here” I said dryly as I look at my mom. “I thought I informed the maid to tell you I wanted to speak to you” . She snapped and I balled my fist giving her a hard stare.
“And I decided to comply”, I reply in a mocking tone picking up my toasted bread.
“ How dare you talk back at me? She flared standing up. Pathetic.
“I don't have time for this,” I said curtly and turn to leave when her voice stopped me abruptly.
“ If you walk out that door, don't think of calling me your mom”, she said and I scoffed.
“ You were never my mother.” I replied curtly and headed out.
******* ********* ******** *********
I got down from the car and immediately put on my headphones, silencing the world before me. I got my backpack from Jones and nodded in affirmation to him. He got back in the Rolls Royce and drove out. I spun around and began walking towards the school's entrance when Ellen ran towards me.
“Hey,” she said with a warm smile that I had to return.
“Hey”, I replied glancing at her with a cocked brow. She was fidgeting a lot and seemed really nervous.
“What up with you?” I asked and she let out a nervous laugh.
“Oh, it's nothing” She answered as we got in the hallway. “Okay” I said with a shrug and silence for you.
“Fine” She broke the silence making me smirk. “ My parents are celebrating their anniversary today and I'm to give a speech. I've never given a speech anywhere before” She blunted and I chuckled lightly.
“ There is no biggie there. I could help you write one” I told her and she stared at me in this belief.
“You're not kidding”, she spoke in a rather mild tone.
“ Yeah. I've written a few essays and speeches and I don't see any problem in writing an anniversary speech” I said confidently.
“Don't mean to brag, but I got best essay written at my former school.
“ Thanks a lot, that would be really great”, she told me with a beam. I would really use a friend right here so….there's no harm in helping her I guess.
“ So what are we having first?”, she asked when we got to my locker. I looked at my schedule and sigh softly.
“Arts, then Chemistry” I replied her and she's smelled softly at me. “I have gym class and English later on. “So I guess I'll see you then”, she told me and I nodded curtly then she walked away.
I took my books out and began strolling towards the arts class as I listened to soft music on my headphones. I didn't stop walking till I notice a group of guys cornering me while some circled me at the hallway.
“ what do you want? I asked in a bored tone not taking my eyes off my phone. The phone was forcefully snatched off my grip making me look up in a snap to see the same idiot I beat up at the cafeteria.
“You don't learn lessons, do you? I said with clinched fist while he let out a mocking laugh that literally pissed me off.
“You got what you wanted last time because I wasn't feeling too good. Now I'll break you to pieces”. He said clenching his fist and I snorted.
“You talk like a girl. Now if you would excuse me, I have a class to attend” I said and attempted to walk away but a blonde guy blocked my way making me growl. I hated blonde giys. They looked fake.
“Move out of the way” I said through gritted teeth, trying in all my possible means to contain my anger. “Make the move and get unlucky”, the blonde guy said with a smirk. That doesn't even make any sense. I used the corner of my eyes to notice the guys circling me take out pocket knives.
“ Look, we're in school. I don't want to hurt anyone” I said in a calmer tone this time because I knew I will end up slicing all their skins and getting a suspension slip which I wasn't ready for.
“You'd be the one to get really hurt here” the blonde said and I sighed softly. I quickly ducked down making the knife slice the person beside me. What the hell. That almost hit me. They all lurched at me in a flint of a minute. The only thing I remember was hitting a guy there, punching here, a few ducks and a slice. Wait a slice? I instantly got hold of the two arms that was meant to hit me to look at the blonde boy bleeding at his left eye. There were phones recording everywhere.
“Shit!” I cursed and flung the arms away quickly grabbing hold of the idiots before he fell. So dramatic. Just an eye cut and he's acting like I stabbed him in the belly.
“Get a grip”, I said in disgust when he began sobbing. People cleared the way and I took him to the nurse and left.
Look, don't blame me. I hate having blood on my hands and I promised my dad I won't fight again, which I guess the promise is breaking by the day. I ended up missing my classes and getting a serious pep talk from the principal. At least it wasn't a detention. By the time I left the principal's office it was already break time. I stayed there for five goddamn periods. I was really pissed off when I got out and didn't even make it to the cafeteria, I headed for the back door and I was met with the open field.
I looked at the bleachers and noticed someone was sitting under the bleachers. I didn't really care so I walked to the middle of the field and crazily lay on the grass looking up. The sun wasn't high up so I could clearly see the cloud and the sky. I remember Ethan always liked doing this in the evening. He would force me to lay with him outside on the grass and watch the sky change color. He would always wake me up each morning with a big hit on my head with a pillow. He taught me how to fight and be who I am today. I really miss him. I remember gently shutting my eyes and sleep took over. A peaceful quiet sleep.
Vaughan’s POV
The bell rang for breakover, so I got up from where I sat and got out from under the bleachers. I looked at the field to see someone lying facing up on the grass. I wanted to walk away but I found myself staring at the figure. It was her, all right. She just seemed to be everywhere and always doing one crazy thing or the other. She wasn't too far away so I could see her almost clearly. It was getting windy and I could see the clouds thickening and small rumbles. I let out a breath and looked at her knowing fully well I couldn't just leave her there.
“Get up" I said loud enough for her to hear, but she didn't budge. I walked closer and dug my hands into my pocket.
“Get up” I repeated in a louder voice but she still didn't budge. The thunder rumbles became louder and it suddenly became dimmer. I blew out a long breath of annoyance and walked towards her lying stare then crouched down.
“ Get-” my words were replaced with a growl and she jerked up and tossed me around, pinning me to the ground with her on top of me.
“Got you pin down this time” she said with a smirk, making me glare hard.
