“Last night, where did you go?”

My hand paused, the fork hanging midway in the air.

I darted my gaze toward Jamie, who was already watching me.

I rolled my tongue over the beef and swallowed. “Outside, at the party. Once I finished relieving myself in the bathroom.”

My mother didn’t look up from her plate, and I had the feeling she hadn’t believed a word I said.

“Jamie,” she called, and he straightened immediately.
