The past few days had been peaceful, but something about Luther had changed. It wasn't anything obvious.

He still smiled whenever he saw me, still asked if I had eaten, and still made sure I was comfortable.

But I knew him well enough to notice the little things.

He spent longer hours inside his office, answered more phone calls than usual, and sometimes disappeared without saying where he was going.
