Jason was fascinated by Emma's beauty, which was so pleasing to his eyes. His gaze could not be diverted from her figure. For the first time he was stunned to see a girl after years of not having any interest in getting to know something called love.
"My future's so beautiful," he muttered to himself.
"Why is he here? Regina is really annoying! She didn't tell me at all that Jason was coming. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have gone home earlier and would have stayed at Celine's house." Emma was busy with her own thoughts. She just stared blankly at Jason and the man's parents.
Regina, who saw Emma's response, immediately approached her daughter. "Don't stare blankly. Come on, quickly greet them warmly!" She whispered while nudging Emma's arm as a sign.
"Wow, it turns out she's much prettier in real life than in the photo. Right, Jason?" Mona smiled happily as she looked at her future daughter-in-law. She occasionally glanced at her son, who had been paying attention to Emma.
Emma was still contemplating in her place, while Jason's parents and her mother had gone to the dining room to have dinner together. "It seems like this matchmaking is really going to happen," she said to herself. She took several deep breaths while biting her lower lip. Her fingers were intertwined because of the anxiety that was gripping her heart.
Jason still hadn't moved from his place. He continued to watch Emma's movements. "What do you think, Emma?" he asked in a soft voice.
Emma immediately gasped from her reverie. "Oh, nothing." She became embarrassed and chose to leave Jason's presence.
"She's very cute. It was not in vain that I agreed to this matchmaking. I don't know why my heart immediately started beating when I saw her photo for the first time. Are you really the woman who was destined for me?" Jason smiled meaningfully. He then moved to the dining room.
Throughout dinner together, Emma continued to contemplate while occasionally taking deep breaths. Her feelings were uncertain now. There was sadness, anger, and confusion, making her powerless to do anything. Even her appetite suddenly disappeared, and she could only stare at some of the food neatly lined up on the table.
Jason, who had been secretly watching Emma, was curious about what happened to the woman. He looked at Regina. "Can I ask Emma out? It seems like it would be better if I had some time alone with her," he said openly.
"Of course. Ask her out and let your parents accompany me here," Regina replied with a sweet smile.
"Thank you." Jason looked back at Emma. "Let's have dinner together outside," he invited softly.
Emma just nodded her head in agreement with Jason's invitation. "Let's go first," Jason said. They both stood up, then walked side by side out of the house.
Throughout the journey, Emma was silent while staring at the car window. She didn't know what to talk about with Jason right now. Her mind was very confused.
"Are you uncomfortable being around me?" Jason asked straight to the point while occasionally glancing to his right.
Emma looked to her left. “Huh? Why do you think that?”
“I don’t know. I just guessed. You’ve been quiet since we got in the car." Jason focused on driving.
“I don’t know what to talk to you about. Weren’t you the one who asked me out? So, talk!” Emma answered bluntly.
Jason smiled thinly. “That’s right. I’m getting more and more impressed with you. Will you be my fiancée?” He said, suddenly stopping his car on the side of the road, then staring at Emma intently.
Emma was silent, her eyes wide open, surprised by Jason’s sudden question. “Wow, you really surprised me.”
“Of course. I don’t like small talk. Especially about life partners, and I decided to choose you.” Jason grabbed Emma’s hand and stroked it gently.
“Why did you choose me? I’m not a good woman, and I don’t have any special qualities. So, why are you sure you chose me as your life partner?” Emma answered slowly, releasing her hand from Jason’s.
"I know you won't agree to my invitation. I also know you don't love me yet. But allow me to be your companion who will always be there for you in good and bad times. My feelings for you are sincere, and I'm not lying about that. You can do whatever you want. I won't limit you. I just want you to get to know me better until you want to put my name in your heart," Jason said sincerely. His eyes didn't blink at all, staring at Emma's eyes, which were currently also staring at him.
Emma's heart was touched by Jason's words. Her gaze did not shift at all from the figure of the man in front of her now, and she did not find the slightest lie from his expression. However, strangely, she did not feel any vibrations in her heart. "Should I accept this matchmaking? He is kind and perfect. But why is my heart reluctant to accept his engagement invitation?" she thought while taking a deep breath.
Jason realised that Emma was uncomfortable right now. "It's okay. It seems like it's not the time for us to discuss this now. I respect you. No need to force it." Jason smiled wryly. There was a sense of disappointment in his heart.
“We should go back to my house,” Emma said then.
“Okay.” Jason started the car again and drove at a moderate speed.
Ten minutes later, Jason’s car was in front of Emma’s house. The atmosphere between the two of them was so awkward, and neither of them wanted to speak first. They both got out of the car and walked side by side into the house.
“Why so fast? Aren’t you two going to eat out?” asked Mona. Meanwhile, Regina just kept quiet while watching her daughter’s attitude, which looked gloomy.
“We changed our minds. Eating together here seems more enjoyable,” replied Jason with a smile, trying to hide his sadness.
“How is it? Have you two decided on a date for your engagement?” asked Marcel suddenly, making the atmosphere in the dining room quiet for a moment.
Regina continued to watch her daughter’s movements, which looked restless. “What do you think, Emma?” she asked frankly and hopefully.
Emma just lowered her head while playing with her fingers. Jason, who saw that the woman beside him still hadn't responded, immediately spoke up. "We should postpone this arranged marriage."
"I accept the arranged marriage with Jason," Emma said suddenly, surprising everyone in the room.
