Ethan’s POV

 Scarlett’s scream pierced the air, freezing me in place. For a split second, everything seemed to slow down. I turned just in time to see her stumble at the top of the stairs. She flailed her arms, trying to catch her balance, but it was too late.

She tumbled down the stairs, her body hitting each step before landing in a crumpled heap at the bottom.
